To be fair, she's still probably the blackest person in Coeur d'Alene.

Crab Mentality - 2015-06-12

Idaho is so white the head of the NAACP is a white woman in blackface.

Needs "Not the Onion" tag.

oddeye - 2015-06-12

seriously, not the onion

15th - 2015-06-12

my mistsake

simon666 - 2015-06-12

Anyone see that Curb Your Enthusiasm episode where Larry out's his divorce lawyer for pretending to be Jewish?

yogarfield - 2015-06-12

"SHE'S GONNA GET EVERYTHING!!"

Prickly Pete - 2015-06-12

We're gonna be seeing a lot more of this over the next few decades.

Nikon - 2015-06-12

Isn't it inappropriate for them to out a transracial person? Kxiy4 needs to check their cis-racial normative privileges. #wrongskin #transracial

That guy - 2015-06-12

HOW DARE YOU!!

She's the highest yellow there is.

magnesium - 2015-06-12

The fact that you fell for a 4-chan prank is improved by the fact that you think hashtags work on poetv.

Nikon - 2015-06-12

Or, perhaps, I could be going along with the joke

Oscar Wildcat - 2015-06-12

She's breaking glass ceilings here, be respectful.

Nikon - 2015-06-12

Indeed. She is WrongSkin.
She was born to white parents but she identifies as being black.
That's not a joke. It's not okay to mock her. It's not easy to live
like that.

Her struggle is your struggle. Listen and believe.

Bort - 2015-06-13

Man, WrongSkins, that takes me back to differential calculus days.

blue vein steel - 2015-06-13

C. Thomas Howell was a pioneer

Oscar Wildcat - 2015-06-13

Huh?

Pioneers of Transracialism

1) Vanilla Ice

infinite zest - 2015-06-13

It's like I'm sayin', if you're a white person impersonating a black person they come right at you! It's like a double triple standard times 9

BHWW - 2015-06-12

There's a news story here about how she "received" threatening hate mail, but it had never been mailed, just stamped, addressed, and found in the local NAACP's mailbox (without a postmark).

http://www.kxly.com/news/spokane-news/Dolezal-disappointed-hat e-crime-reports-didn-t-lead-to-arrests/33516438

"Postal workers told detectives the envelope had not been canceled, time stamped or imprinted with the bar code that directs mail to the right destination. According to the police report, the postal inspector told detectives, "The only way this letter could have ended up in this P.O. box would be if it was placed there by someone with a key to that box or a USPS employee."

"Don't read the Youtube comments don't read the Youtube comments don't read the Yout-FUCK!"

betamaxed - 2015-06-12

Maybe she's not "transracial" but instead she's cosplaying as a gender-swapped Soul Man?

oddeye - 2015-06-12

But is it any worse than believing you are a star child, or otherkin?

fluffy - 2015-06-13

Yes, because this also completely fucks with the discourse of actual racial issues in this country.

EvilHomer - 2015-06-13

Oddeye, no it is not. Otherkin, tranny, Boomer the Dog, or white-to-black racially reassigned individual, it's ultimately the same thing.

Fluffy, discriminating against someone based on their race is ethically wrong, and in many cases, illegal. The news reporters badgering her over this are engaging in textbook hatespeech, and if she is fired, she could probably take the NAACP to court for violating the 1964 Civil Rights Act. If either are things which you at all care for, then you should be siding with Ms Dolezal, not her detractors.

Besides, isn't "completely fuck(ing) with the discourse of actual racial issues" precisely what we w̲a̲n̲t̲ to happen...? The current way we're going about the discourse, clearly isn't working so well.

oddeye - 2015-06-13

Evilhomer, as usual, is correct. It shouldn't matter what colour she calls herself. If calling yourself black or whatever creates a problem then the system is the problem, not your racial identity.

15th - 2015-06-13

Really? Considering she likely sent herself a noose, I think I'd take issue with that if I were black.

EvilHomer - 2015-06-13

Shades of Sarkeesian, huh? If she's been faking her own death threats, then that is a problem... but this problem would be separate from the "problem" of her racial identity. She m̲a̲y̲ be a bad person, but it won't be her race that determines if she is or not.

Hooker - 2015-06-12

You have to imagine that claiming you a black when you are visibly white is a lie that is going to catch up with you.

Gmork - 2015-06-13

I agree partly with this, but unless she's doing shitty work or not actively fighting for the notion of human equality, I'm seeing this as a case of very, very, very, very poor judgment from someone who's actually pulling for racial equality. Whatever, she could be crazy for all I know and making all that shit about nooses up.

Enjoy - 2015-06-15

Gmork never mind the swastika she painted on her own door or the eight other "hate crimes" she created for law enforcement to chase down? Never mind the positions she held at the NAACP and the university that excluded a real black woman from holding?

As long as she has the right liberal intentions I guess anything goes.

Gmork - 2015-06-15

Enjoy, you're quite possibly the dumbest person here.

"Gmork never mind the swastika she painted on her own door or the eight other "hate crimes" she created for law enforcement to chase down?"

So you have irrefutable evidence of all this? You should probably contact the local PD in her area rather than attempt a pathetic troll-play on me. You apparently didn't read anything I've said at all, and just knee-jerk reacted all over me based on retarded assumptions you hold.

What a surprise.

"Never mind the positions she held at the NAACP"

Because that's always indication of a shit human being, right?

"and the university that excluded a real black woman from holding?"

Thats... nice? It has nothing to do with anything I said. I never defended that action, nor was I aware of it when making my OP. You mentioning it is completely irrelevant and shows your desperation to put me down for whatever faggoty reason you've cooked up (this time).

"As long as she has the right liberal intentions I guess anything goes."

You're boring, wrong and stupid. My entire point is that this isn't news, and you're morons if you think it is. I love how you (and SO many other pseudo-intellectuals like you on this site) attempt to impugn motivations on me that are completely contrary to how I actually feel.

M-DEEM - 2015-06-12

I once saw an Asian trinity dancer at Irish fest. The national guard had to be called in

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2015-06-13

I actually know a gay black dude that is half Irish, half black and he plays Irish musical instruments. He loves going to Irish festivals and he told me no one has ever given him crap, but this is California.

I think that cultural festivals in general are a lot more open to people who share no heritage with said festival participating if there is genuine interest.

But yeah, this is a wee bit different. I just made this point on Facebook just now that a lot of people I know have done overseas work as ESL teachers and a lot of them identify with various cultures where they are, Thai, Chinese, Korean, Columbian, etc. But it's one thing to appreciate a culture and participate in their traditions, it's another to suddenly say you are from that culture because it's not like religion where you can jump in and out at will. At least not until nanotech allows us to design and modify our bodies and faces like accessories, and then I guess a whole new discussion will take place.

M-DEEM - 2015-06-13

Each year near me in milwaukee theres a series of ethnic fests. Plenty of white people in the pow-wow, plenty of black people step dancing. Never a problem.

I don't think its that big of a deal to say you're black, or say you're anything really. i dont even think you need to be black to hold a leadership role in the naacp.

But it's pretty fucked up to send yourself fake racist letters and not even think they'll be checked for cancellation. Unacceptable

Tell your friend irish fest milwaukee is aug 13-16. Totally worth it

The Mothership - 2015-06-12

What drives someone to do this? I mean, to let the fantasy get this far?

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2015-06-12

Histrionic Personality Disorder?

dairyqueenlatifah - 2015-06-13

The moment I see "cis" is the moment I stop reading.

Oscar Wildcat - 2015-06-13

If I understood the story on the Beeb last night, her 4 siblings are in fact black, they were adopted. So you can see how in order to fit in with her sisters and their friends she might start adopting black mannerisms and culture, and pretty soon everyone just accepts her as black.

The Mothership - 2015-06-13

Oscar Wildcat has a point, peer pressure is a motherfucker and family pressure is even worse. Let's cut her some slack.

Bort - 2015-06-15

So basically this:

This one's a pretty good read:

Old_Zircon - 2015-06-13

I like how the OP thought the stuff in that class was perfectly reasonable until she found out this woman is white. As if the ethnicity of the person taking you to a church to study black people's hair for a college class has any bearing on whether or not it's completely unacceptable on a bunch of different levels. Which seems very Tumblr indeed.

Maybe it was one of those classes meant for football players.

Enjoy - 2015-06-15

The twitter hashtag #askrachel ha some of the funniest tweets I've ever read

fedex - 2015-06-13

I think they confused "black" with 'tan"

Hazelnut - 2015-06-13

Race is a social construct without any biological basis. If she says she's black, she's black.

gravelstudios - 2015-06-13

Humans are essentially an invasive species from Africa.
I appreciate your logic, but very few other people will buy it.

ashtar. - 2015-06-13

You're correct about the first part, but, just because something is a social construct doesn't mean that it doesn't have content, or that it is easily changed.

oddeye - 2015-06-13

then how come black guys are better at jumping and shit?

That guy - 2015-06-13

You're awfully dumb for nearly smart.

Xenocide - 2015-06-13

Other social constructs:

-Money

-Laws

-Wearing clothes

Fun game: abandon all those concepts, see how well your life goes.

Nominal - 2015-06-14

C'mon, baby. Consent is just a social construct without any biological basis!

simon666 - 2015-06-14

It *seems* to me that there is a level of equivocation with the term race, where sometimes we're talking culture, but other times we mean people with a particular amount of melanin in their skin. It's like mixing up conditionals and bi-conditionals depending on the what suits rhetorical goal. I think Hazelnut is in this group of equivocators.

That guy - 2015-06-14

Well, yeah.
But Hazelnut might not be trying to equivocate at all.
In many ways, Hazelnut's first sentence is true.

Hazelnut - 2015-06-15

I.... don't think I know what simon666 means. I just think people should be able to try to be whatever person they are inside: if Bruce Jenner can be a girl, this woman can be black. I mean that sincerely, not in some weird troll way.

Not an equivocator, just a Californian.

Sexy Duck Cop - 2015-06-13

I can't wait for the inevitable "How DARE you tell a person what race/gender/age/height/weight they are!" think pieces OH WAIT that's already happening.

Old_Zircon - 2015-06-13

It's worth pointing out that whoever uploaded this clip to Youtube is trying to put an MRA/MGTOW spin on it.

Bort - 2015-06-13

Look at her, she's the black Katy Abram. Well, the blackest form of Katy Abram that could exist anyway.

http://www.poetv.com/video.php?vid=64718

Gmork - 2015-06-13

The irony of caring more about someone's skin color than who they are (head of NAACP).

So unless you think she's there to specifically undermine black people, the fact this is news at all is incredibly racist.

oddeye - 2015-06-13

Pipe down gamma scrub, the MEN are talking here.

Bort - 2015-06-14

Yes yes, it's the blacks who are the REAL racists. This tends to come up only at times white folks find it convenient to get all "whoa, 'race', what are you talking about? I've never heard of such a thing."

I'm sure the NAACP, overall, would prefer to live in a sufficiently color-blind society that their organization was completely irrelevant. Since we are not there, race remains a real issue, even if the concept of "race" doesn't have much scientific merit.

Ultimately the issue is that Dolezal misrepresented herself. If she had identified herself as white and the NAACP nevertheless put her in charge, we wouldn't be having this discussion.

Gmork - 2015-06-14

Bort - what the utter fuck are you blatheting on about? I think you replied to me by mistake, because it's completely fucking non-sequitur.

"Yes yes, it's the blacks who are the REAL racists. This tends to come up only at times white folks find it convenient to get all "whoa, 'race', what are you talking about? I've never heard of such a thing."

Seriously. How does that rambling mass of disconnected thoughts relate to what I said at all?

Gmork - 2015-06-14

"I'm sure the NAACP, overall, would prefer to live in a sufficiently color-blind society that their organization was completely irrelevant. Since we are not there, race remains a real issue, even if the concept of "race" doesn't have much scientific merit."

Who exactly are you talking to? I'm assuming Hazelnut was the OP you were after. It would actually be relevant if that's who you meant to reply to.

Xenocide - 2015-06-13

Fun fact: She once told a Latina student that she couldn't participate in a discussion on race because her skin wasn't dark enough.

Gmork will still defend her. She's furthering the cause!

Gmork - 2015-06-15

Where am I defending her exactly? My issue is with people calling this "news".

My god, you can't even troll right.

EvilHomer - 2015-06-15

I think if he gets a rise out of you, he's doing it right.

Bort - 2015-06-15

This whole thing comes across like a sitcom that lasted five weeks on Fox in 1991.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2015-06-15

This whole story is just fucked up, from beginning to end. I'd like to give a special FUCK YOU shout-out to whoever posted this

>>Liberal, Social Justice Warrior and Feminist commits the ultimate insult on black and minority groups by Browning her face up, popping on a wig and claiming to be black and becoming president of NAACP!
Proving that in fact victim hood culture and movement is a money making scam.

No, it does not.
