If I owned this I would play it as loudly as technically possible for as long as possible.

Seconded, but only if they have an option to change the music! I'd like to find one of these, but I feel like the only places around me would be a Dave and Busters way out in the suburbs.

This is also the first 60FPS YT video that's played all the way through (except for the parts that I skipped) in actual 60FPS. It could just be my computer but the framerate usually drops for me at various times.

Apparently, this was also Yuu Suzuki's last game for Sega, before he left to start his own studio, YS.net.

He was the man responsible for HANG ON, OUT RUN, SPACE HARRIER, AFTER BURNER, VIRTUA FIGHTER, FERRARI F355 CHALLENGE and other Sega arcade games, though he's also notable as the creator of SHENMUE.

Oh, Yuu Suzuki also created POWER DRIFT in 1988, which is arguably the granddaddy of all kart racers even if SUPER MARIO KART (first released 4 years later) is the one that gets all of the glory. Not that I'm implying that SUPER MARIO KART didn't improve the formula (adding boosts), although the first MARIO KART didn't have the vertical action of POWER DRIFT's rollercoaster tracks.

I always thought that Shen Mue was a weird departure for him, especially since he went back to doing stuff more like this afterwards. But this is kind of insane even by Namco standards. Then again, Miyamoto did Mario and the relatively darker Zelda.. still, it's kind of like if Cormac McCarthy or Quintin Tarantino did something for kids; people would just think i twas weird.

Also I loved Power Drift; had no idea it was from that long ago. I remember playing it at an arcade in Japan in 1994 and thought it was brand new.

Holy shit, this may be the only racing game more unabashedly exuberant than Daytona USA.
