I'd just like to say that Guardian Heroes is one of the best beat em up games ever.

infinite zest - 2015-07-05 Yeah.. it was about 20 years ago, that I was in 13 in Japan and one of my homestays had a Saturn. I don't think it had even been released in North America yet. Here I am in a brand new country but fuck exploring all I wanted to do was play the Saturn! Sadly there was only one controller.
|
infinite zest - 2015-07-05 oh please bear with my grammar too. Whatever I was trying to say Saturn was awesome. Way cooler than Playstation!

Kid Fenris - 2015-07-06 The Xbox Live port of Guardian Heroes is a pretty good substitute if you don't want to buy or emulate Saturn games. Too bad the new translation removes the Randy-Serena shipping that all Guardian Heroes fans still debate to this day.

Making games is soooooo much easier these days, probably taking 100's of times less manhours (inefficiency and mismanagement aside). Its a great thing though, it means one person can go ahead and make their dream game by themselves without any corporate crap. Games on consoles were the polar opposite. This is a golden age of great games imo.

StanleyPain - 2015-07-04 Yeah, it's just too bad so many independently made games these days are people way to young to even remember the 80s trying to make "retro" games.
|
Old_Zircon - 2015-07-05 It's a golden age of great games and a golden age of crap games.

Nikon - 2015-07-05 One downside is that, as with music, nowadays there's less of a quality filter meaning we have to go through much more before finding something good.
|
Nominal - 2015-07-05 I'd much prefer millenials using games to tell me what 80s gaming was like than using games to express ARTFUL MESSAGES about life.
|
Nikon - 2015-07-05 I think we're on the same page when it comes to pedantic non-interactive movies or text-heavy lectures disguised as games.

I thought this was really interesting.

Interesting and informative! Good stuff.

The Saturn always will be my favorite underdog game system. The PlayStation had a better library, but the Saturn had Panzer Dragoon, Dragon Force, ten-player Bomberman, Guardian Heroes, Radiant Silvergun, and awesome ports of arcade games from Capcom, SNK, Sega, and lesser-known shooter developers.
It's not as great a discovery today, now that later systems and emulation have made many Saturn greats easier to play elsewhere. But hey, it still has the first three Panzer Dragoons!

Ah, so that's why Saturn emulation has never been perfected.
