Invite this dude to the white house, stat!

The Mothership - 2015-09-21

Oh god, is this a false flag operation now?

Cena_mark - 2015-09-22

Seems there's a camp determined to prove that the kid intended to create a bomb scare, and they're "proving" it by showing that the clock wasn't "invented" as the media claims, but rather an existing clock put into a case. To them this somehow means the schools Islamophobia was justified, and that Obama is sympathizing with this junior terrorist.

Bort - 2015-09-22

The kid used the word "invented", which of course was never the right term. But who cares? He most likely did at least some tinkering on it, and it's not his fault this became a national story.

Oh well, if you were enough of a bigoted piece of shit to assume this kid was a murderer and you can't accept you were wrong, you'll take what you can get to prove that this kid was sketchy on some level. To which I respond, go huff a jumbo can of Raid, it's the one positive service you can yet perform for the country.

EvilHomer - 2015-09-22

I love how even though no terrorism has taken place, the American media has still found a way to get us all thinking and talking about terrorism.

While we're on the business of busting stupid people's illusions: Steve Jobs basically took technology invented and developed at Park Xerox, put it into a shiny case with rounded corners, and called it his Macintosh computer.

Somewhere out there, a boy is in fact building an atomic clock in his bedroom. He is largely ignored, although sometimes is a convienient scapegoat for the rest of the monkey tribe.

badideasinaction - 2015-09-22

Yeah, this is the current derail. It kinda sucks that the kid's clock is basically this, and will make for a silly photo op with the president, but it doesn't negate the shitty reaction by the school and the cops. That being said, you don't always get to pick the perfect person for the cause - I'm sure most ACLU attorneys dream of defending To Kill a Mockingbird in court, but they end up having to defend Barely Legal Ass Pirates 17 instead.

A tiny part of me wonders if it snowballed because the teacher recognized he was being bullshitted and tried to scare the kid into admitting he just transplanted a clock radio into a pencil case, but once a admin and a cop got pulled into it he just had to double down and toe the "I thought it was a bomb" line because he thought he'd get in trouble if the teacher admitted he knew it was just a clock. I assume that's not the case, since it wasn't like he brought the clock in for marks or something, but I could see a dickish teacher doing that and not expecting it to snowball into an arrest.

RockBolt - 2015-09-22

The very first articles about this said that this is what the clock was, that he made it in 20 minutes the night before by taking apart a clock and rebuilding it in a pencil case. He never said it was anything else.

His engineering teacher (who he brought it to show) said it was nice, but he should keep it to himself. It was his english teacher who asked about it (the alarm beeped in class), told him it looked like "a movie bomb" and took it away. He was later summoned to the office and was confronted by police (one of who remarked "yep, thats who I thought it was" upon seeing, presumably Ahmed's skin color). At no point did they think it was an actual bomb (there was no call to the bomb squad, no one was evacuated), they wanted to hassle him about possibly perpetrating a bomb hoax (even though he never said it was a bomb and never planted it anywhere), arrest him, scare him, then let him go.

oddeye - 2015-09-22

It could have been a bomb. To be fair a broken clock is still right twice a day.

themilkshark - 2015-09-22

Clocks are terrorism

betabox - 2015-09-22

You know who else had clocks? Hitler!

Caminante Nocturno - 2015-09-22

Clocks are an accomplice in bringing us closer to death.

SolRo - 2015-09-22

Darwin and Stalin also had clocks

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2015-09-22

The Clock King was the worst Batman villain. Of all TIME.

oddeye - 2015-09-22

"A Clockwork Orange" had like a hero that was a rapist or something AND gangsters (the original terrorists) wear clocks around their necks and shit.

chumbucket - 2015-09-22

MacGruber! (BOOM!)

Caminante Nocturno - 2015-09-22

The kid doesn't even look like a terrorist. He looks like the nerdy wunderkind member of an special forces group.

They'd call him Specs or something like that.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2015-09-22

He looks like someone that would play Aziz Ansari in flashbacks.

oddeye - 2015-09-22

dude.. he's brown.
