Watch the first elbow to the head, and then fast forward to 2:10 for this dude's greatest hits.

jangbones - 2015-10-11

the NHL is the only American sports league that does this, releasing videos clearly explaining their reasoning behind suspensions and punishments

the other leagues are fucking gutless and obfuscate the process

poorwill - 2015-10-12

It also serves a dual purpose as an injury highlight reel.

EvilHomer - 2015-10-12

I don't know, jangbones. I'm sure the US Squash League would release videos like this, but are hesitant because of how violent and exciting their injury highlight reels would be.

Monkey Napoleon - 2015-10-12

The other sports leagues seem like they're kinda for pussies in general. How many leagues do you see dudes get their throats cut open so bad they spray blood out like anime geysers?

Video in the link isn't working for me.. is this the one they're talking about?

That's gotta hurt but I feel like I've seen much more obviously intentional behavior in other sports, the kinds where you're on foot and not sliding around on ice with limited mobility at fast speeds, like Zidane's headbutt or any number of facemask grabs in futball and football respectively.

I've only been to one hockey game because I won tickets and it wasn't NHL but the Milwaukee Pirates, and they'd actually call time outs for planning out some sort of a move where a fight would break out. It felt a lot like pro wrestling: nobody cares if they attend a scoreless World Cup match but a hockey game on any level without a hit of some sort of takedown is like watching a wrestling match without somebody sneaking in the folding chairs and tables.

For some context, this is Torres' 10th encounter with supplementary discipline, and he's no stranger to illegal hits to the head. A guy that reckless has no business playing a sport where you strap knives to your feet.

infinite zest - 2015-10-12

Ok didn't know that. This looks to me like a nascar driver accidentally causing a collision, like it comes with the sport, but if it happens 10 times..

Other people's heads have a not-minding-their-own-business problem involving Raffi-the-Great's shoulder.

spikestoyiu - 2015-10-13

Serious question because I understand hockey's appeal less than any other sport I've come in contact with (wait, no... that's NASCAR), but would anyone watch hockey without the fights and the general violence?

Raggamuffin - 2015-10-13

Well, violence is a big part of the game of course. It should be noted that what this guy did was beyond the pale. But beyond the violence hockey is a very fast, technical, and free flowing sport. The game doesn't even stop for players to come off the bench.

Plus it's just fun. I never played ice hockey but played a lot of roller hockey when I was younger. So there's a lot of appeal right there, vs. a sport like Nascar that few can relate to unless they were lucky enough to grow up on or near a race track. But watching Hockey is less fun, for me anyway, because I can't see the damn puck. When Fox first got NHL they had a pretty cool solution, to make the puck glow and have trails, so home viewers could actually see what was going on and that it was more than people with sticks skating into each other, but that didn't last too long.
