And now, a word from the President!
Damn it feels good to be a gangsta
Gettin voted into the White House
Everything lookin good to the people of the world
But the Mafia family is my boss
So every now and then I owe a favor gettin' down
like lettin' a big drug shipment through
And send 'em to the poor community
So we can bust you know who
So voters of the world keep supportin' me
And I promise to take you very far
Other leaders better not upset me
Or I'll send a million troops to die at war
To all you Republicans, that helped me win
I sincerely like to thank you
Cuz now I got the world swingin' from my nuts
And damn it feels good to be a gangsta

Killer Joe - 2015-10-09

#IAMACHRISTIAN
Seems he also took a brave stance by proclaiming himself as a christian in a party led by christians and a base that is overwhelmingly christian.
This guy is a cultural chickenhawk.

infinite zest - 2015-10-09

Thanks Ben! I was that guy behind the counter once across the pond from detroit. A few steps to the right and you might have been performing brain surgery on me. 5 for evil brain surgeons and reminding me of Popeye's.. their buttermilk biscuits are the best thing in the world, like little buttery pop rocks.

On that note, I've been following this story closely because they're continually bringing up the fact that the kid had autism. Since the gun industry makes more money than social services for intellectually disabled like the ones I work for, I fear that we might go back to the days where we just lock people up again, just like they did with Rosemary Kennedy and the population of Fairview Hospital, conveniently located near Roseburg.

Countdown until he makes his exit speech out of childrens cartoon lyrics.

The Mothership - 2015-10-09

Ha, yes.

Anaxagoras - 2015-10-09

I don't understand what's going on here. I would grock this if someone other than him told this story: Ben Carson would just be being a hypocritical prick. But... HE told the story. Why? What's he trying to accomplish? And is he *trying* to make himself look inconsistent & hypocritical?

Sexy Duck Cop - 2015-10-09

The best part is local police immediately refuted the story, saying they had no such records of that Popeyes being robbed, which means he MADE UP A STORY WHERE HE WAS AN OPPORTUNISTIC COWARD

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2015-10-09

Maybe he's an alien. He gives me "Dick from Third Rock from the Sun" vibes.

Ugh - 2015-10-09

mother fucker saving up enough good ones points to buy that harrier jet from the commercial

Miss Henson's 6th grade class - 2015-10-09

Awesome if true, but I'd sort of like a clip that featured what he actually said. I suppose you can't really expect too much from an interweb thing called "newsy."

TeenerTot - 2015-10-09

That's right! No need to fear guns. As long as there's someone else you can make the target.
What a fucking fuck.

CIWB - 2015-10-09

I live in a drastically conservative part of the country, and it's interesting how much support this guy has among moderate Republicans. Or at least what passes for "moderate" these days.

He's a neurosurgeon, so he must be smart!

He helps children, so he must be a nice guy!

He's black, so supporting him shows that I'm not racist!

I think that the nightmare scenario is not Trump winning the GOP nomination, which even his supporters must know on some subconscious level is simply not going to happen, but this guy. This guy is acceptable to certain vast segments of the voting public in ways that Trump is not.

I know some people think that it would be great is some giant, gibbering moron won the Republican nomination so that Hillary could wipe the floor with him, but I think that's placing an undue amount of trust in the American voting public.

Anaxagoras - 2015-10-09

Democrats who hope for a gibbering moron opponent are fucking stupid. We already went that route in 2000, and we got Dubya as president for 8 years.

Sexy Duck Cop - 2015-10-09

Count me as one of those people praying for a comedy candidate.

The fact that Trump, Carson, or Fiorina will never, ever, ever be President has nothing to do with trust or undying faith in the greatness of democracy. It's basic electoral math. The GOP's base has shrank to virtually nothing but angry old white people that hate the party itself as much as they hate the Democrats. It's a self-loathing, self-destructive ball of unsustainable rage that can barely hold itself together--just look at the fiasco following Boehner's resignation and McCarthy withdrawing his name.

That's not a winning coalition. Angry old white people are nowhere near a sufficient voting bloc to singlehandedly win an election, especially when they lack motivation to vote due to sheer distrust of their own party. Romney got his ass handed to him for gaffes that, compared to Trump or Carson, were positively mild.

Do you really think a man who said he'd deport 11 million immigrants is going to win? Or a dude who calls everything the Holocaust and fabricates stories about turning gunmen on cashiers? Or a former CEO that makes Romney look like Che Guevara? The only real threat is Rubio and Hillary's own incompetence.

I know "Everyone is stupid but me" is a very popular opinion on the Internet, but most voters are more informed and poltically engaged than you think .Dumb rednecks may be a powerful voting bloc in the primaries, but they don't carry you to the White House.

Baron_Von_Bad_Beaver - 2015-10-10

Vote Bernie bby

Anaxagoras - 2015-10-10

" most voters are more informed and poltically engaged than you think"

No. Just no. We live in a country where Dubya won the presidency not once, but twice. There's ample proof demonstrating that most votes are exactly as informed and politically engaged as I think.

Sexy Duck Cop - 2015-10-10

Bush lost the first election and only won the second due to John Kerry being a virtually nonexistant candidate. Besides, in 2004 much of the country was swept up in a narionalistic fervor that was easy to exploit. Hell, at the time, even intellectuals like Sullivan and Hitchens were cheerleading the Iraq war.

Honestly, the whole "everyone but me is ignorant" angle is a shallow, intellectually lazy argument. If I talked to any number of Republicans, I promise they'd say the same about you. Politics is so, so much more complicated than "manipulate rednecks."

Anaxagoras - 2015-10-10

A couple things:

1) You're kind of right about Bush's first election, except that he didn't "lose" that election... we have no idea if he won or lost, thanks to the Supreme Court's decision. But point taken.

2) Kerry was a perfectly fine candidate. He got his messaging out there, he made his policies known, he campaigned hard. I didn't care for the dude, but he was an OK candidate. The blame for that election lies squarely at the feet of the American people.

3) I don't follow the "everyone but me" is ignorant angle. But it is a fact that the right wing consists disproportionately of "low-information voters". That's born out by study after study. Add to the low-information voters the selfish, self-interested voters and those who have radical different moral values from me, and voila! You have the right wing of this country.

It's not intellectually lazy to state that roughly half of this country is shit. It's just a reflection of what we've been seeing.

Nominal - 2021-05-12

Wow did those turn out to be terrible predications.

And yes, the voting public turned out to be dumb as shit.

subduralhematoma - 2015-10-09

Brave Ben Carson ran away! Bravely ran away away!

Anaxagoras - 2015-10-10

I can't believe it. A Holy Grail reference that was actually fresh, unexpected, and funny? Stop the presses!
