Eh, I teared up at that scene a little bit too.. And for the most part I like Smith, like, not necessarily some of his movies but he seems like a cool guy to talk about shit with.

Bort - 2015-10-29 ... Gad zooks, the videos have been taken down. Oh well, they were videos of a perfectly lovely woman losing her shit over a variety of movies, while her rather douchey and undeserving husband filmed her. But she had the good sense to know she was overreacting and be a good sport about it.

Guardians of the Galaxy is a very fun, and sometimes very moving, entertaining movie. Most folks I know teared up at that part.

Kevin Smith is a cool guy to talk about Kevin Smith with. The thing that he is crying over is the greater hubris of being a nerd in a world that produced GotG. Which, is basically his greatest strength and greatest weakness, and, in the end, the reason we know who he is in the first place.
But if there was ever a reason to hate the guy it would definitely be this shit. Unchecked verbal diarrhea. I would argue that there are probably instances where he is capable of speaking intelligently, but I also remember his days of posting on the AICN forums and I truly believe he is like this all the time, at home, with his wife, with his kids, talking to himself on the toilet, etc.

What is it with women and shitty crime documentaries? My best friend watches"Snapped" for hours on end, and whatever is on Investigation Discovery. It's not the worst thing on TV, but hours and hours of it is pretty depressing, because it's ALWAYS the husband or wife of the vic who does the deed. Every now and then, it looks like the spouse will be cleared, BUT NOOOOOOOO... All these horrible stories about some nice ordinary person being dismembered by the person they shared their lives with. Over and over. And then i can't get her to watch a silly horror movie with me.
It's definitely some kind of a chick thing. Marlo Thomas does the voice over for "Happily Never After". Susan Lucci hosts one of these shows. Even Oprah padded her network with reruns from 48 hours.
I recently heard Patton Oswalt do a few jokes about his wife's proclivity for crime reality TV.
I hope this doesn't sound misogynistic. I guess I was complaining about being subjected to my friend's taste, but mostly it's just interesting that a lot of women seem to have a thing for this kind of entertainment. It's not what I would have expected. I can take it in small doses, and we both like Lt. Joe Kenda, Homicide Hunter.

Bort - 2016-03-20 That stuff is great background noise / TV viewing for me too. Here are a couple things that make it interesting:
1) It's very heavily based on real events. At some level, that lends more weight to what's going on.
2) Because it's based on real events it doesn't follow a paint-by-numbers narrative or pacing. You know the beginning and you can make a pretty good guess at the end, but the middle part is where it gets interesting.
3) I especially like the "Nude Detectives" or whatever it's called, because the middle part is less about plot twists and more about how to use unlikely scientific principles to prove things.
4) Even if you miss some part in the middle, you haven't missed a whole lot. "What'd I miss? Oh they're taking cotton swabs to the bathroom mirror, they must be collecting DNA."
5) The narrator's soothing voice. Nobody else could possibly read a line like "investigators found semen traces in the victim's body" and make it sound so ordinary. He should be the guy who tells parents their child has an incurable disease.
