What exactly constitutes a "Taco Bell Executive"?
SolRo
and MBA, a pulse, and a references from that frat the hiring manager was a part of.

Hooker
I'm not asking how you become one, I'm asking what it even means.

SolRo
Primary job function is to decide which regions of the world get crippling diarrhea a certain week, and which disgusting snack food combination needs to be genetically spliced with a taco.

But honestly, like most executives, i'm sure mostly what he did (he got fired) is take credit for the work of much lower paid employees and decide when a couple thousand people need to lose their jobs to boost his stock options.

EvilHomer
Is he a Taco Bell executive? I notice that ABC fails to mention the attacker's career and corporate affiliation - but then again, that could just be ABC doing a favour for an advertiser.

memedumpster
Backwards. Pink. Hat.

Guillotine him, but dull the blade to a flat edge first.

I'm on board if we can complete the ensemble with some of those white plastic sunglasses.

The Fairly Jailparents! It just has a nice ring to it.

SolRo
Work for Uber; Get treated like expendable shit by your company AND your customers!

tags; quote-ride sharing-quote, sleazy company, disrupting the market man!
SolRo
also could use 'MBA' tag.

I don't use or care about Uber or take taxis but I find it hard to believe that taking or working for one is significantly worse than the taking or working for the other. It's not like taxi drivers never get robbed or shot through the back of the head.

If Uber didn't exist this douche would be doing the same thing to his traditional taxi driver.

SolRo
traditional taxis have a partition, as the video says.

and traditional taxis are owner/operator situations.

Uber isn't even real work, they're contract workers that get treated like regular employees without any of the benefits. And the pay they make is slightly above gas/maintenance/vehicle depreciation....it's basically work for suckers that cant do math or the incredibly desperate.

Potrod
NYC's taxi service is probably Uber's single largest US competitor, and most of its drivers are also underpaid independent contractors with few benefits or health care. A minority (20-30%) of NYC taxis are owner-operated and it's very difficult to actually become owner operated. The majority lease medallions from taxi companies who rake in most of the profits, and typical NYC taxi drivers seem to make on average around K/year working long hours. From what I can tell other cities operate on similar systems.

Cena_mark
Uber drivers are still somewhat protected by the lack of anonymoty, then again that might not help when most of your clients are drunk.

baleen
we've all done it. what's the big deal?

I'll admit to being drunk in a cab, but I've never hurt anyone. The worst was a couple of years ago on a really hot day I spent bar hopping by myself, forgetting to eat anything or even drink water. All of a sudden I was pretty much passed out outside of a bar I luckily hardly ever go to and was asket to leave. Ironically I had enough memory to close out my tab and get my card back, which the bartender had forgotten I had opened. Anyway the cab took me home and I did my best not to puke. When I got home I looked through my wallet and couldn't find my card to pay him anywhere. I was super apologetic but said I didn't know what to do, that he could take down my phone number and I could call the cab company tomorrow, or whatever, but the guy just told me something about Jesus and let me out. Turns out I put my card in a slightly different place than normal in my wallet and drunky didn't think to look there. And I never called the cab company because I thought I'd get the driver in trouble :(

The Mothership
Damn this flew through the hopper.
SolRo
It's a feel-good story.

Douchezecutive acts like a douche, gets arrested AND fired.

Fun for the whole family.

Cena_mark
Douche is right. Dude looks like he's almost 40 and still dresses and acts like a punk ass frat dude.
Frats are so stupid, and old childhood friend's family is super pro-frat. They get offended if you call it a frat and not "Fraternity". One of the brothers will say, "Would you call your country a cunt?"

EvilHomer
Clearly he is from one of the more plebian fraternities.

When I was living in Madison I lived on "Sorority Lane" for a couple of years in one of the hippie co-ops; it was kind of awesome for me because they'd just throw out perfectly good shit every year when it was time to move, which was always August 14th. I still have my perfectly good TV from there. They were mostly the douchey Big Ten-style frats you'd expect, but I actually made friends with the Math peoples' frat, and they threw pretty good parties, so I dunno.

And I was always jealous of my brother's frats when he was at Yale, because they were a capella singing groups. Yale would actually pay for them to go on tours, sing for the President and whatnot, and your senior year you got to spend a semester touring the entire world. That always sounded like fun.

EvilHomer
Yep, that's Yale alright. One giant a capella frat tour.

Some local artist is hosting a flashmob down there next week, or last week, or sometime whenever. He wants volunteers to stand in a line and glower menacingly at Yalees. I'm not doing it, but it sounded like something you might be into...!

infinite zest
Heh that does sound like fun. My only contribution was turning my chair around at the commencement speech in May of 2001 when George W started speaking and then other Yalies graduating started doing it too but they started getting in trouble. I was like "I don't give a fuck I don't go here.." but I spent a good portion of my summer that year in New Haven and really liked it and most everyone I met.

I got attacked like this on the job when I'm driving a lot, and it's illegal for me to use any physical restraint. I just sort of have to pull over and let the situation dissolve itself, which isn't always easy when you're stuck in rush hour traffic. After the first time I was like "can't we put up a barrier like they have in taxi cabs" which the company said they'd think about, but it was decided that doing so would be dehumanizing so it never happened. Anyway after a particularly bad injury I don't work with that person anymore, and I'm kinda glad because it could've been a lot worse than that.
SolRo
It's illegal to defend yourself? I call bullshit

Grandmaster Funk
Do you transport the developmentally disabled?

infinite zest
Yes I do GFunk, though transportation's a small part of my job. I just pick folks up from day programs, or take them to the park, strip club etc. most of the time it's just like having fun but sometimes people turn on a dime and outbursts like these happen.

As far as Defense goes, it's illegal in Oregon to do something like hit back or especially pepper spray someone, at least in my line of work, but I'm trained in Intervention and it's pretty easy, kind of like Judo, I'm sure it's in place because of people in the past abusing their clients for misbehaving, but that's not positive reinforcement anyway and I'd never do it. Just kinda sucks when you're driving is all. :)

infinite zest
But I can defend like normal people would protect themselves when getting attacked, and if someone, say, hit my foot so hard that he or she broke their finger, that's not my fault. And that's how I wound up in a leg brace because someone did and it broke my toes but their hand seemed fine. :)

Doc Victor
Uber driver is a scumbag job par exellence. The guy definitely did not deserve to be attacked, but Uber is very shady business, surprised this is the worst incident we've seen so far.
SolRo
Seen, as in, on tape or actually happened?

Because there have been much worse things

Cena_mark
I thought all the shady stuff from Uber was at the top levels. I always head the drivers often get fucked over by the company.

Doc Victor
Seen as in videotaped. The shadiness is top down at Uber, but likewise it results in plenty of less than upstanding citzens working in its employ all the way at the bottom.

infinite zest
Any company has shitty employees, but I just wonder how they know whether or not the driver's actually good to drive. I was talking to a friend of mine who works for a cab company who was on his "lunch break" drinking whiskey at the bar and smoking a joint. I hate to say this and I don't condone it, but if there's anybody who can drink and drive, it's this 300+ pound bouncer/taxi driver dude who knows the city like the back of his rather large hand.

Anyway we were talking about the company's sobriety policy, which was super lax. It said that you shouldn't drink too much where you're visibly over the legal limit, and that's about all it says! I'm assuming UBER has the same policy, but if you gave me a shot of whiskey and asked me to drive you to some place I wasn't familiar with, in a town that I've lived in most of my life, Garmin couldn't help me any more than french fries at that point.

infinite zest
Or a dispatcher telling me to take the day off, ya know?

Rodents of Unusual Size
The prestigious megaconglomerate of Taco Bell has been disgraced. Taco Bell is a place of fine dining. It would be an honor to go to Taco Bell with any of you.

This man was once a prince, and he never will be again. One day he will look at himself in the mirror in prison, using his three seashells and think wistfully, I had it all.
infinite zest
Pshaw! After this mess I vow to ONLY be a Chipotle Man!

Oh shit.

EvilHomer
Your tone is quasi-facetious, but you do not realize that Taco Bell was the only restaurant to survive the Franchise War.

Now all restaurants are Taco Bell.

infinite zest
Your prophecy might be right! Maybe it's not national news, but all the Chipotles in Oregon and Washington have shut down after 30+ people got e. coli, McDonalds is suffering because of their "Breakfast All Day" idea, Burger King messed up by trying to play nice with McDonalds, and Subway has the stench of a pedo mascot on their hands, which I think about every time I pass one.

Taco Bell had a drunk asshole exec, and I assume most execs are drunk assholes, and they fire him just like that for actions off the clock. May your taco empire run for a thousand years, much like the innards of those who consume your food!
