pretty sure wearing a corset 24/7 is not a good idea, not to mention removing half your ribs for vanity.

best quote:
"...people finally start taking me seriously because they can see I'm not a crazy person."

PS: that doc is creepy as all get out

Robin Kestrel - 2015-12-01

He offered to knock 25% off his fee if she allowed him to eat the ribs after surgery.

bawbag - 2015-11-30

5 for evil. Did not like her comparing her surgeries to the struggle trans people face one bit.

On one hand I'm all for people being able to change themselves but what are/should be the limits ethically for a surgeon?

infinite zest - 2015-11-30

I don't really see too much of a difference really. If she truly identifies herself as a cartoon character than it's pretty much the same as gender identification in my book. As for the surgery itself, I dunno, if you can live without it, I say go for it if it makes you happy. I'm just sad because she was so much prettier in my eyes before, but I'm not her so I can't speak for anybody but myself.

As for surgery, removing ribs won't cause any long term damage; Marilyn Manson and many others have had ribs removed, so it's not like removing a vital organ; said could be said for limbs though.. you don't really need them to survive but I'd hesitate to cut off someone's arms even if they offered me a million bucks.

bawbag - 2015-11-30

I think the Manson one is an urban myth, no?

Shoebox Joe - 2015-11-30

Sorry infinite zest, but I really don't see how the comparison works. On a personal level, yes it can matter a lot; but when placed against how many discrepancies placed on and between gender, it ends up being more vanity than practical.

It's the reverse equivalent of a untreated cleft lip & palate and asking whether it bothers them, not because it affects their speech and common mouth movements and daily activities, but because they look different.

5 for the freak show and the unscrupulous philosophizing. Go give them conservatoids their brownie points.

infinite zest - 2015-11-30

Oh yeah, I guess it is, but it was the only example I could think off the top of my head, and I don't really keep up on what MM's doing too much. But models do get it done, and in some cases it's necessary for anybody as ribs sometimes puncture vital organs.

Comparing yourself to a community of people who might feel ostracised is a bit of a stretch though, you're right: hers' was a choice, whereas being born into a gender that's not one you're comfortable with is not a choice, and I'm sure her day-to-day life benefits from the surgery whereas most transgendered people have to struggle with being accepted in a society that's still kind of getting used to it.

infinite zest - 2015-11-30

(Oops meant as a reply to bawbag but this works too. Good timing!)

Scrotum H. Vainglorious - 2015-11-30

"Do no harm."

lol I need a new boat.

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2015-11-30

Meh, If someone wants to do that to themsleves why stop them? If someone wants to blow their head off why stop them?
I dont see why we should stop people (providing they are not suffering from some temporary mental ailment or have dependants)

Anaxagoras - 2015-11-30

The simple answer is:

We shouldn't enable mental illness.

Of course, when you start trying to differentiate quirky personal preferences from mental illness, it's not so simple anymore.

Shoebox Joe - 2015-11-30

I still don't get the entire "let someone shoot themselves bit" mentality. If after all has been done to treat, assist or resolve a situation and said person still kills themselves, then what's the point of fretting about it? And I don't mean that as a sincere philosophy, because it isn't. It's a coping strategy for loss after a lot of work and effort. I just find it really cold that the lines "let them kill themselves, people die anyways" are not a matter of emotional resolve and relief, but an emotional conditioning for a shitty personality.

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2015-12-01

@Shoebox. Imo it should be lauded, best thing ever for the environment.

Jet Bin Fever - 2015-11-30

As a physician I can say that whoever performed these surgeries for her is a monster.

Pillager - 2015-11-30

I have a CRISPR video in the hopper. I would love to hear your thoughts on gene editing.

Jet Bin Fever - 2015-12-01

I'm in family med, so I doubt I'd be able to add much, but sure!

garcet71283 - 2015-11-30

Millions of years of evolution? Nah, we don't need all of those.

Tough American Bouncer - 2015-12-01

She ain't pretty no more...

yogarfield - 2015-12-02

5 for "no more"

Sanest Man Alive - 2015-12-01

This is a hate crime against skeletons.

casualcollapse - 2019-10-03

5* for you

StanleyPain - 2015-12-02

So...serious question: are a lot of guys really into those fakey, inflated, collagen nightmare lips that look like a cross between a Looney Toon and a giant puckered asshole?
