Not related to the video, but why do people still say "tune in to" when talking about TV shows? All TV's digital and has been for about 8 years now.

MacGyver Style Bomb - 2015-12-01

You dial a phone number, but when was the last time you used a rotary phone?

infinite zest - 2015-12-01

Yeah but nobody says "dial up" in their commercials like they used to, it's always just "call" in commercials and such nowadays. The only time you really hear "dial" is from those of us who remember using rotatory phones, just like I might say "I tuned in to the game last night" because I remember having analog TV.

infinite zest - 2015-12-01

It's like saying "chargeplate" or putting the "http://www." in front of your website.

takewithfood - 2015-12-01

I still "hang up" when I'm done talking on my iPhone. Perhaps more amazing: I still use my iPhone as a phone.

infinite zest - 2015-12-01

Oh yeah.. I guess last time I was on an automated line it said "hang up or press pound for more options".. But plenty of people still have landlines that you do hang up, which is the most surprising thing of all!

CrimsonHyperSloth - 2015-12-01

A lot of people still use OTA to get local channels free, as a result you're still tuning a signal. I'm not sure it's dead yet, just not likely as popular with the 35-ish and under crowd.

infinite zest - 2015-12-01

Huh, maybe it's different in different parts of the country or world, but that's why they offered everybody coupons for free digital converters so they could continue to receive basic programming if they still had an older UHF/VHF setup. But that's also when I decided I didn't want to bother with getting a converter, since there's never anything good on anyway.

BiggerJ - 2015-12-01

There's a word for that sort of thing: skeuomorph.

Oscar Wildcat - 2015-12-01

Fifty Shades Of Red, White And Blue.

This might be OK. I actually like Snyder, mostly for his excellent job handling Watchmen, and the last Superman movie was actually really good and I don't understand the hate. As far as Miller adaptations go, 300 was pretty horrible, but Miller wanted to make a pretty-looking bloodbath with no substance and Snyder turned it into a movie, so I can't fault him on staying true to the source material, since there really was little to begin with. BvS is my far my favorite story arc in the DC Universe (All Star Superman being right behind) so I'll see it regardless, but I'm confident it's in good hands.

garcet71283 - 2015-12-01

I actually agree with you about the Superman movie.

No, it wasn't the Donner Superman and it was excessively moody, but I enjoyed it on the same level as the Nolan Batman movies. Just gotta roll with the tone.

Having read the Watchmen comic and seen the movie, I think the movie did the best damn job it could have given the ridiculous amount of content that the comics had. Complaining about the changes is the same as the LoTR fans that gripe about no Tom Bombadil. Everything cut would have ruined the flow.

kingarthur - 2015-12-01

Watchmen was unfilmable. Moore was right about that. It was meant to be a graphic novel.

Watching the movie, having read the book, was like trying to fuck with a Kevlar condom.

infinite zest - 2015-12-01

Somewhere out in the cosmos a spirit high-five is being given from you to an ex-girlfriend of mine, who refused refused refused to watch it; she'd literally rather have buried her head in a pillow than watch The Ultimate Edition with me, even though we agreed on everything else. Dangit now I miss her :)

Fox-Pixar Media - 2023-09-26

Don’t get me started on the earth reversing scene

garcet71283 - 2015-12-01

Calling it now, time travel.

Future post-apocalyptic Batman has to travel back in time to stop some disaster which makes Superman start acting like an evil god.

infinite zest - 2015-12-01

If it's going to take from the Miller comics, I'm guessing that Superman is working under some Donald Trump character (replacing Reagan) and singlehandedly wipes out a group similar to ISIS (replacing the Soviets) in a single blow and becomes hero for the day, week or whatever, and then the soap opera begins..

oddeye - 2015-12-01

OR into the mortal kombat universe

kingarthur - 2015-12-01

Batman's homo-erotically charged dream sequence. Calling it now.

StanleyPain - 2015-12-01

It will more likely be some dumbshit thing like Kryptonite making him bad like in Superman III or something weird.

SolRo - 2015-12-01

in the animated adaptation (maybe the comic too?) superman becomes a lackey to the US government.

chumbucket - 2015-12-02

Yeah but he doesn't have a Ming goatee so that means he's still good universe Superman, right? I don't read comics.

infinite zest - 2015-12-02

Yeah at this point he's still "good," but he's just become a government lackey. It's pretty much the same as Watchmen and Dr. Manhattan, except Superman works for the government because he's kind of dumb and thinks it's the right thing to do, where as Manhattan really doesn't care. In either case it makes for a conflict of interest. In one Superman he turned out doing the same thing to help out the Nazis too I think.

I could be wrong and the plot could go in another direction, but the exosuit from Dark Knight Returns was already in the trailer, so I'm just assuming they're taking that route. I don't really follow Superman (or Batman) that much either, I just like to pick and choose from the shorter graphic novels. He's got a beard now?

roycemuckler - 2015-12-02

is this just for hoots? or is this actually a thing?
Why is batman wearing a trench coat?

TeenerTot - 2015-12-02

Because he's a moody detective.

Hooker - 2015-12-02

Even Superman's angry that they cast Ben Affleck.

oddeye - 2015-12-02

Ben Affleck's chin combined with Donald Trump's hair would make a great villain.

That guy - 2015-12-02

fucking Affleck

Dr Robot - 2015-12-02

His eyes have black makeup whilst mask is on. No make up when mask removed.

This movie is going to be so fucking stupid I can't wait.

SolRo - 2015-12-02

Maybe a wry elderly black scientist man spent billions of dollars developing a mask that perfectly forms around your eyelids?!?

StanleyPain - 2015-12-02

YOU WILL BELIEVE A MAN CAN SCOWL AT ANOTHER MAN.

GRUMPY SUPERMAN V GRUMPY BATMAN.
