some relevant tidbits;
the lawyer of the family points out that the police initially claimed he turned around an pointed a gun at them. Afterwards the officers got to see the dash cam video, before writing their reports on the event.

Are those the shots at 52 seconds? Unless I'm mistaken that's Johnson getting shot in the back while running away and that's really messed up, even if he has a gun. According to the prosecutor, that gun is supposedly visible in his hand in this video, but that must take the trained eyes of a lawyer desperate not to charge two cops with murder within a couple of weeks.

SolRo - 2015-12-07 Yes.
Also convenient how the only car recording where he fell decided to turn to block the street.
|
Bootymarch - 2015-12-07 are you fucking kidding me? and no dash cam of the cop car pulling up with a clear view of where the struggle was...
|
SolRo - 2015-12-07 In the McDonald killing, out of 9 cars responding, only 5 had cameras (the others either didn't or they were not working). And of those 5 cameras, none had sound.
One could say that 'blah, blah, equipment upkeep, underfunded department, things break, etc'...but then considering how -all- the cops there blatantly lied on their police reports about what actually happened, I have to wonder if there's some evidence tampering going on and tapes 'accidentally' getting erased.

Nominal - 2015-12-08 If cops treated correcting "broken" cameras with half the urgency they do broken tail lights...

5 cuz important. Cops have hard jobs, dealing with all the problems and people everyone spends their lives avoiding. However, this cultural moment of examining how they apply violence is still important in the face of that.
|
oddeye - 2015-12-07 Bad cops shouldn't be protected and allowed to keep their jobs because they taint the many great cops out there.
|
Cena_mark - 2015-12-07 I've done some law enforcement training and these cases show either a huge difference in our training, or these jerks just throw the use of force continuum out the window. The problem is in how easy they can justify lethal force. The victim doesn't even need a weapon, the cop just needs to believe one was there, or that he felt threatened.
|
SolRo - 2015-12-07 I don't think any jury could buy him saying he saw a weapon, since he literally gets out of the car, sees the guys back and opens fire.

'I feared for my life' - said every bent civilian-murdering cop ever.

I know cops unduly murdering civilians is nothing new, but wouldn't you think they'd try to hold off on doing so for a few months or years until the media cooled off and forgot about Ferguson and Baltimore and moved on to something else? Seems like you're just begging for a media nightmare at this point.
