This week has been so shitty already.
What a shitty week.

What a great song, what a disastrous video.
Sad, and too young, but what a run the guy had.
|infinite zest |
It's hard to pick one, but my favotite song by Bowie was always Sound and Vision. It's a short little jam with very few words but it means a the world to me. Years before I worked there myself Bowie and Iggy played a show or two at the theatre I worked at, so we shared the same dressing room in different realities. That's how I guess I'll remember him, if I can stop crying to make a paragraph. :(
I've always liked the really early stuff and first album, where he's doing songs for imaginary Anthony Newley plays, and everything on Hunky Dory except Song for Bob Dylan, which is almost definitely my least favorite thing by him I've heard.
And Crystal Japan, of course.
(also note that Trent Reznor literally copied Crystal Japan as "A Warm Place," it's at least as flagrant as Jimmy Page's note-by-note lift of Bert Jansch's arrangement of Black Water Side as "Black Mountainside" on whichever Zeppelin album that's on.
Wow, I never noticed that before...you're right..

Awwwww... WHAM BAM THANK YOU MA'AM!
Station to Station / Low
my top 5 or 6
that alien dudegirl changed my life
Hunky Dory, The Man Who Sold The World, and Scary Monsters for me! Everything he did was pretty good up until the mid 80's in my book.
I guess I have heard a couple of the songs from Outside, but I never gave it a full listen, I'll have to check it out. Black Tie White Noise was the one that kind of ended it for me. Although I will say the video for Jump They Say is pretty fucking great.

This is Ground Control to Major Tom
You've really made the grade!
And the papers want to know whose shirts you wear.
Now it's time to leave the capsule, if you dare.
This is Major Tom to Ground Control
I'm stepping through the door
And I'm floating in a most peculiar way
And the stars look very different today...
It's okay, everyone. Dick Cheney is still alive and doing great.

Why don't you take my fucking heart first thing in the morning. fuck.
(On the other hand, what an age to go. It really is way too early, I'm taking every news story title out of context)
Just heard Space Oddity on the radio at work and got super misty... Worst monday in years.
Godspeed you freaky alien.
Way to twist the fuckin knife, jerk.
Is it too late to cancel this week?
That was meant for Nominal.
I can't be the only one to think "Why does Dick Cheney still get to be alive?" every time one of the greats goes too early.
Macho Man, Phillip S. Hoffman, Bowie, etc.
Absolutely not. Cheney is way past his expiration date.
At some point Cheney will just become a head in a fishbowl, much like that character from 'The City of Lost Children". Big old gramophone style trumpet farting out the words and hissing of the vacuum tube amplifiers. "Crush. Kill. Destroy".
God damn it, I don't care when celebrities due, but his... I can't deal.
This is very sad. I enjoyed disliking this man's music, and he will be sorely missed.
