I think it began as trolling and then turned into a satrical meme to mock the progressives who constantly attack his character, but then the more brainless half of /pol/ missed that it was a joke and took it seriously and now there's a bunch of morons online who honest to God think Trump is some white nationalist hero who's going to report all the Mexicans, put all the women back in the kitchen, nuke the Middle East, and execute all the gays and Jews.

Nevermind if you actually read Trump's past comments on social issues like gay rights he's pretty much in line with democrats five years ago.

I hadn't been on there in 5 years or so but I've poked around recently a bit and it seems like /pol/ is loaded with a mixture of obvious trolling for Trump and possibly sincere support for Trump but I don't really feel like spending enough time to get a feel for which camp is dominant.

At any rate, I just took a peek and they definitely agree that he was talking about them.

At the risk of sounding like an asshole, a lot has changed on 4chan.

When it was a much smaller site, the userbase generally understood the implied irony behind a lot of the humor there. As it's popularity grew and the userbase started becoming more representative of the general population. The number of people who didn't completely understand the joke grew to become the dominant voices of the site.

Boxxy and Bronies are two huge examples of this, as both phenomena started out PURELY as trollsy ways to disrupt threads.
