Why's he expecting Celestia to beat the shit out of Twilight, or Babs to threaten the CMC with knives? This video was done well into the show's run, he shouldn't be expecting that level of violence at that point.

I'd recommend watching the whole thing, but around three and a half minutes in, he starts explaining some of the TV shows which triggered him. WARNING: it gets very sad.

"Brony Wants More Violence in MLP" is incorrect. Whoever originally uploaded and titled this clip either didn't watch the video, or completely failed to understand what's going on.

Yeah, same here. He's a very positive person, though - hard-working, humble, and always trying to overcome his limitations. He takes criticism well, and he's even built his own animation studio! (his manager is his dad, but, you know, still better than most people can do) I feel for him, but I really think he'll be OK; he's cut from a different cloth than ChrisChan and most of the other autistic weirdos you see on the net.

This guy seems OK, and another example of the difference between actual autism and Tumblr autism.

Incidentally, a good friend of mine's mother is a child psychologist and she has reported a pretty massive trend of upper middle class parents demanding their (unambiguously non-autistic) children be placed on the spectrum because having a child with high functioning autism is apparently quite fashionable right now. Which is fucking gross.

Not necessarily; I can tell that this guy's on the spectrum but that's just a speech impediment. I've known just as many people diagnosed on the spectrum who speak "normal" and just as many who are not with a speech impediment.

Most of the time what I notice is more of an urgency in tone, a lot of times thinking quicker than the thoughts get out, producing a general lack of understanding of what an inside voice vs. an outside voice is. But there's plenty of speech pathologists that would disagree with me on this.

I think(or hope) that it's something that he's putting on, and it's all just an act.

My favorite episode is the one where Rarity is slowly eaten by another, slightly larger Pinkie Pie over the course of 20 minutes and none of the other ponies react to it.

Others might be able to explain it better, but Hasbro (as well as the cast) are well aware of the Brony community (at this point who isn't?) but have no plans to pull an Adventure Time and start inserting fan fiction into the series. And I think most Bronies are cool with that. There's that Bob's Burgers episode that sums it up pretty well, where Bob accidentally reads Tina's Zombie Pony Fanfiction and is called out as being a fraud Brony.

I'm guessing in the Brony universe of MLP there's probably more violence than almost any other cartoon on TV, especially one intended for children, but I think they understand that necessary separation.

The 100th episode of the show was full of brony in-jokes (it was also terrible.) But that seems to have been a one-time thing. Every other episode seems to operate on the policy that MLP is still for little kids and that demographic is the only one they're going to aim it at.

It's a good policy because by this point its become clear that bronies will buy MLP merch no matter what. Kids are a much harder demographic to please.

Ugh.. I watched the whole thing on Dailymotion. I don't think I know enough about MLP/Brony culture to get any of the specific jokes, but I get the context anyway.. Big Lebowski and Dr. Who references? What kid DOESN'T love that?

MLP doesn't have to cater towards bronies, because MLP is already giving bronies what they want. If you watch Jordan's other video (the one I linked for Cena) he makes an incredibly astute observation, to the effect of "MLP is the closest our generation is going get to The Andy Griffith Show".

Conventional wisdom is that, in order to reach an adult audience, a show needs to tackle "adult" themes - "adult", as defined by the American entertainment industry, means cynicism, violence, cruelty, etc. But that needn't be the case! As the McDonald's Brony points out (both here and elsewhere) there is a genuine demand for sincerity and positivity in art. That's exactly why internet people embraced the brony phenomenon in first place; not because it's "for kids" (MANCHILDREN!) or because it's "for girls" (FAGS!), but because it is quality programming which wasn't being sold to them by the usual pack of sarcastic, sneering assholes.

Like Xenocide says, the 100th episode was basically all fanservice, but there's not a lot of catering beyond that. The adult brony community is huge already; at this point it is its own self-contained fanwork fandom, churning out tons of content suitable for fans of any disposition, so even the most fussy of bronies don't actually -need- the show to cater directly towards them in order to stay interested. Hasbro has taken a few small steps to change their marketing strategy; for example, as the fandom took off, they started selling lots of hipster-grade brony gear via Hot Topic. Beyond that, there's no reason for them to change.

IZ - the 100th episode was packed floor-to-ceiling with inside jokes, but most of them were obscure bits of trivia that only a dedicated brony would understand.

The Bowling Ponies (Big Lebowski) and Dr Hooves (Dr Who) were prominent background characters; Dr Hooves may or may not have started as a coincidence which the fandom ran with, but the Big Lebowski ponies were added intentionally, clearly for the sake of parents and animators.

The Lebowski ponies are there because it's Lauren Faust's favorite movie, and she's snuck a reference to the film in every show she's worked for.

In Powerpuff Girls, the Mayor once gave the "strong men also cry" speech.

In Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, there's a whole episode about bowling, where the rival bowler is the friend of a guy who looks exactly like Walter.

The Lebowski ponies only show up in the background of one scene set in a bowling alley in their first appearance. It has no bearing on the plot and is easily missed even by grownups. Then they aren't seen again until the 100th episode, where they get speaking roles and their own subplot and it's all really forced and stupid.

But at least they didn't bring back the Jesus pony, because eight year olds, dude.

The Bowling Ponies are also featured prominently in the MLP Gameloft game for Android and iOS. And yes, Jesus Pony was in there, too! (he's since been removed)

Great assessment of the show Homer, as I'm also looking for a nicer personality and feeling in media rather than cynicism and other things you mentioned that are so common in 'adult' fare.
