The 3 white Ghostbusters, Rick Moranis, Sigourney Weaver, and...that's all! Good night!

Actually, all those characters are black guys. But they've seen shit that'll turn you white.

one of my friends met harold ramis for make-a-wish as a kid and all the promo photos were just of the three, no winston - he asked about it and he said they got kinda weird and changed the subject

i remember reading that part was originally for eddie murphy so i imagine he kinda parachuted in and they probably resent him for that. or not, maybe they're just stone-cold racists, fuck if i know

Hudson talked about this - in the original draft meant for Murphy his character comes in at almost the start and is some decorated military veteran scientist expert. Once Murphy was out they wrote him out of the first half of the movie. Too bad, because Winston is a great straight man foil to the rest of the squad, something that I feel like the new movie is lacking since everyone is playing the comedian so far.

I kinda hope Leslie Jones' character is a nod to the original intended version; she starts off as playing the uneducated one like the trailer portrays and midway through the reveal is she's actually a government operative sent in to keep an eye on them or something.

It's a better trailer. Can't deny that.

I like how they mixed one of the stereo channels to the right speaker and one surround channel to the left in the 80s. No boring balanced stereo mixes like these days!

The jokes held up.

Rewatching it today, I find it slightly weird how most of the characters smoked. I feel like this was one of the last movies where everyone smoked and it wasn't even a thing. It's never commented on or treated as a character trait, it's just something that's always there, especially in any scene driven by conversation. Ghostbusters is a very 80's movie (in the best possible way) but that detail almost feels like it's also closing out a different era. In Ghostbusters II, no one ever even touches a cigarette.

At the very least it looks like an actual movie that was made by talented professionals.

'Bill Murry' and a gilligan joke in the tags, you truly are a strange bird John

Nevertheless, i think the new Ghostbusters movie is going to be good.

The original is a better edited trailer, that shows us more plot points and gives us a better feel for the three-act structure of the original film. The new trailer, not so much.

Now, we all know, that no matter how terrible the 2016 movie is, it's going to have a three-act structure. The shittiest movie in the world that isn't an indie is going to have that three act structure. It's written into the screenwriting software. So the trailer simply isn't telling us as much.

Jokes in a trailer are always out of context and unfunny, and if the jokes in the original trailer seem all that much better, i submit that it at least helps that we all know the context.

Now, I know that half of POE hates everything that's viewed as mainstream or commercial, and I'm certainly not claiming that that this is going to be a classic like the original. What I am saying is, based on the trailer, that i don't see any reason to believe that this movie is going to be terrible.

Does anyone doubt that they could have made a slick trailer that looks like every big-budget trailer these days, with the booming metallic percussion noises, the fading in and out of blackness, building to a climax that gets everybody's blood racing? In retrospect, I think it's a good sign that they didn't do that.

What this trailer tells me is that it's a Ghostbusters movie, and who is going to be in it. Considering the track record of everyone involved, and the strength of the franchise, I think it's going to do just fine. But I can be as wrong as anybody else. let's take this up again in July.
