This scene is admittedly out-of-context for me since I haven't seen the movie, but..... uck.
Then again, I also really had problems with American Beauty, which is also Sam Mendes.

Nominal - 2016-06-23 Blame American Beauty on writer Alan Ball, who would go on to make his next movie (directorial debut) ALSO about a middle aged father seducing an underage girl!

That guy - 2016-06-23 Drama is my favorite genre, and it's hard as hell to do.
That's part of what I like about it.
I really think low-concept, straight ahead drama or character comedy is hard as hell.
This is just really not the kind of drama I like.
I think I like Michael Shannon, yet I hate everything he's in that I know of.

Hey wow get ready for this mindblowing concept what if...the insane person was actually the "sane one".
Doesn't that just flip your lid? Blow your mind? Hmmm.
PS Sam Mendes is a terrible director who hasn't met a story he couldn't batter around with his fists of ham.

BHWW - 2016-06-23 "The suburbs are stifling" is the second most over-explored theme in film, even though the novel was more about how these two probably would be miserable even if they actually made it to Paris because their relationship was so toxic.
Though it still wasn't as bad Mendes' American Beauty, or the homicidal-urge inducing douchiness of Away We Go.
