I think the Hi-Tops are performing on a stage that is purposefully designed to look like a level from Donkey Kong.
What is this? I mean like, what do you call this manner of... entertainment?
There is a live audience. Did they pay for tickets to come see this? Are they performing at a church event of some sort?
I've got one with Psalty the singing book of psalms telling bible stories and I'd put the audience size around 1500.
I don't get it either.
According to Wikipedia, this was a Broadway style stage production that toured nationally and was successful enough to make this recorded "film" version of it.
Also, apparently, Crystal Lewis (who went on to be a very famous contemporary gospel singer among the fundie evangelical crowds, my foster family included) is in this thing, as one of the angels, before she made her big break in the Christian recording industry. Fascinating.

The first result when you Google "Hi-Tops" is for a gay sports bar in San Francisco with the tagline: "COLD PITCHERS, HOT CATCHERS!"
