All these angry folks better come back for Trump's speech. How hilarious would it be if the most hostile audience he's had so far were for his nomination?
The Mothership
I like to consider myself to be a fairly informed citizen when it comes to our democracy, but what is happening here?

What you're hearing are the moans of the George Bushes, Karl Roves and Bill Kristols of the Republican party. Unlike Bernie, who didn't live up to his anti-globalist rhetoric, Trump is taking a wrecking ball to the trough they've been feeding from for decades.

The Mothership
I was tabling a procedural question, but thanks for the big picture.

Cena_mark
30 years of spouting anti-government rhetoric and now they're surprised that people are rejecting the establishment guys.

Trump isn't taking a wrecking ball to the trough.
He wants to increase military and infrastructure spending.
He wants to create trade tariffs.
His favorite book is fucking Mein Kampf for fuck sake.

He's increasing the trough, not wrecking it.
Trump is living proof that it's not government spending conservatives care about, it's "welfare" for people in the inner cities.

Also, Donald Trump is like a full pint of vitriolic mouthwash over the Iraq War. Ashamed of the catastrophic failure that you voted for twice? Don't admit you're wrong, vote in no apologies nazi that can make your bed for you.

His strong stance against free trade goes against everything the old Republican establishment stood for. These are the people who facilitated the outsourcing of American industry to foreign markets by passing legislation that eliminated existing trade barriers. They eviscerated the American middle class for short-term financial gain, and now they're in a panic because they not only see the fast-approaching end of their political careers, but the end of the global capitalist gang bang they've profited from for decades.

cognitivedissonance
The thing is, they'd be strong stances if they weren't narcissistic paeans to his own self-declared genius.

The Mothership
Nobody has answered my fucking question yet! I am asking about procedure at the conference, can somebody please explain to me the nerdy policy process of the republican party?

TeenerTot
I believe something like this:
They were deciding whether to vote for a rule change to allow delegates to vote for someone other than Trump on the first ballot. I think it depends on the state, but generally, delegates must vote with the popular vote, then if there's a second vote, they're free to vote their consciences. (?)

That's "every administration since the 70s"

Trump has absolutely no interest in disabling global banks.
He runs a globalist enterprise based on labor exploitation and easy access to the deep pockets of global banks.

He wants to win rust belt conservatives, and that's what he's done.

When I say "the trough," we're talking about undoing free trade, which means renegotiating trade barriers that used to exist. In other words, "making government bigger and having more authority to decide how markets should be run." Interestingly, you won't hear a single Republican who votes for Trump say that this is a good idea, which is why it's important to see Trump not on the nuances of his economic policy but on his greater message, which is a defense of whiteness in America and the undoing of "commie jew and nigger" influence in the culture.
This is why he is currently a legend among the altright.

Can it also be said that Trump cannot undo free trade. He can't dismantle the global supply chain with a magic wand. He can however mobilize armed forces against criminals (illegal immigrants) which is what he would probably do.

I read it a little different. How does the party convince people that Donald Trump isn't a political insider? This.

I think the Repubs doth protest too much.

This was the kind of stuff I used to pray for during the Bush years, but now that it's happening it isn't remotely satisfying. It's just sad.

This convention is broken, I hoped they kept their receipt.
