Four berries will kill pretty much any child, but a good number of children can be killed with only two or three. Feeding your child three berries is therefore not a good idea, regardless of your motives - if you don't want your child to die, she probably will, and if you do want her dead, you might as well make it four berries just to be sure.
I used to have a little pocket book. It was called something like: "Field guide to Edible and Poisonous Plants of North America". The idea was to improve your odds of being able to forage for food in the wilderness from "nonexistent" to "infinitesimal". I read the poisonous plant section religiously. That book is the reason I was pretty sure someone had planted belladonna near my elementary school playground. So this garden makes me oddly nostalgic.
