the gun made him do it

Nominal - 2016-09-15 The penis made the other one hit & run.

For every "good guy with a gun" story there's dozens more senseless accidents, tragedies, and suicides with guns.

love - 2016-09-15 wasn't really supposed to be a reply, but maybe it works?

|
Cena_mark - 2016-09-15 Likely a large percentage of "good guy with a gun" stories don't require a "good guy with a gun" like in this case.

Extended family chain mail fodder.

I'm uneasy about this. If the driver ran, would the guy have shot him? Are we to assume now that it's OK for armed citizens to take hostages if they suspect a law has been broken?
Also, here in Missouri the legislature just passed a "constitutional carry" law. No permit? No training? No problem! And they expanded protections for shooters a la "stand your ground." I think I need to move.

|
TeenerTot - 2016-09-15 I'm not trying to villainize the guy. I don't think. I dunno. I just find it scary to have armed citizens making decisions that might be better left to police.
|
Accidie - 2016-09-15 I don't think stopping a guy running people over with his SVU should ever be referred to as "taking a hostage". Gun or not.
|
Cena_mark - 2016-09-16 We're talking about a simple hit and run, not a Nice style rampage of vehicular homicide. Shooting at him would not be acceptable.
|
jfcaron_ca - 2016-09-16 Emotionally this is satisfying, but I'm with TeenerTot (and Zizek) about this. An extreme way to express my feeling is: the State should have a total monopoly on violence. Holding someone against their will, including by threat of death, is a form of violence.
Then again I feel that even police should be completely disallowed to use their guns unless they have a credible lethal threat against them.
|
Accidie - 2016-09-16 I agree there are many points to be balanced, and little revealed in this story, but all y'all seem pretty content to forget about him running over a bicyclist(maybe you, your wife, your mom or dad or sibling) and assume you'd be fine with him getting away.
I'm no gun nut, but this was a time where somebody having one and using it responsibly was a pro-social action. Yes it's not an absolute argument the way it's often used to oppose gun control measures, but y'all look like sheep trying to find something wrong with it to discredit it.

Cena_mark - 2016-09-16 You're the sheep for trying to justify this trigger happy loon's act of dick size increasing vigilantism. Sign up for the NRA, get a free bag.

Accidie - 2016-09-16 Nice try Cena, I've been on here awhile.
|
Cena_mark - 2016-09-16 I'll bet if the NRA told you to go to a camp, you'd go.

Solid trigger discipline. So, that's something.
