Great find OZ, I had no idea the format was that old.

Tentatively suggesting a Bob Dobs tag.

These are more the proto elcaset really, since they're essentially the same thing in a slightly different shape.

Anyhow I'm just clad cassette is finally making a comeback, I've been dragging around about 1200 blanks (probably more like 850 now, I gave a few hundred away to friends over the years and used maybe 150 myself) in factory sealed cartons I got free from a defunct 90s punk label a decade ago because I knew it was inevitable.

Just film your entire collection of stuff and put it up dawg, you've been teasing us with stories of the marvels you've piled up one over another for far too long.

I never knew they used to be so big, but I guess that's the reason "compact" cassettes were called that.

My grandfather had some neat stuff like an 8-track recorder, and a heathkit vacuum tube console organ with a leslie speaker and tape loop reverb!

When my grandpa moved out of his old house, I found several of those in a box with a bunch of other stuff. I don't think he still had a player though.

In the living room, where it belongs.

It must have bothered RCA a bit when it introduced an audio tape format that was rejected in the marketplace in favour of vinyl, then watch videotape smother its Capacitance Electronic Disc vinyl format two decades later.

...and I now stupidly realize RCA imported VHS to the American market in 1977. Still, RCA wanted the CED market to be HUGE.

Maggot Brain
holy crap, was CED a crap format.

Maggot Brain
Damn, that's a big ass tape.
