Poor Bill Walton. I think the only higher-up on the list of basketball what-could-have-beens is Len Bias.

Fellow Blazer Greg Oden would like a word with you.

Walton had a decent career, and his work as a commentator is unparalleled. In that he uses college basketball games as a forum to discuss the legalization of weed, goes on minute-long rants comparing players to Beethoven, and generally ignores and talks over the game as it's being played. It's brilliant.

Len though, that takes the sad cake and eats it too.

ESPNU had an alternate version of the Clemson/Alabama championship game, with Walton commentating on the game (as much as he ever does) while dressed as Uncle Sam. I'm still not convinced it wasn't a fever dream.
