Actually, you know, the timing works out just about right for the Valley Girl phenomenon to have been what really gave him cancer. It had gone undiagnosed for just about a decade before he got a second opinion around '91 or '92.
by comparison it certainly isn't one of his greatest songs, but it's too bad he couldn't just embrace its success and roll with it.
It's like Al Jourgensen re: With Sympathy; everyone evolves musically, so don't try to deny a part of your sonic history so vehemently, it just makes you look like an ass.
If he embraced success he wouldn't have been Zappa.
