We need more cat videos in these troubled times.

YOU DIDN'T TELL ME YOU WERE MAKING SOUP!
Damn humans

It probably just wanted food or to make sure she saw the pool of piss in living room before it dried.

It's been unfathomable to every cat I have ever known that I get into a bathtub or shower.
GET THE HELL OUT OF THERE, MAN! CAN'T YOU SEE THE WATER?!
|
Meerkat - 2017-04-04 My first ferret used to jump into the tub, stick her head under the water and pull the bung out.
I thought she was doing it because she was clever but really, she just wanted the bung.

Old_Zircon - 2017-04-04 I've had more than one cat over the years who would sneak in to the shower when you weren't looking, and then you'd happen to look down and the cat would just be sitting there soaking wet looking at you.
Cats are weird.
|
Oscar Wildcat - 2017-04-04 I had a cat that gathered all the different colored sponges in the house together in the bathroom, and arrayed them in a circle. When I popped in for a piss, he was sitting in the center looking proudly at me. He had built Spongehenge.
I don't find cats particularly weird, but that prolly sez more about me than about cats.

I had a black cat named Shylock, he freaked out and bit right through my hand to stop me from giving a bath to one of his brother cats.

It looks like its genuinely trying to save its baby human from drowning.
In the wild cats are solitary hunters. They dont have 'relationships' with other cats, so they dont have the mental capacity for social emotions, empathy, guilt and whatnot. That would be redundant.
Except! When they are kittens they will play together + the mama cat will take care of and teach her kittens.
The best guess is that the cats 'taking care of kittens' mental module is governing their interactions with their humans. They perceive their humans and giant stupid kittens who somehow never learn to hunt no matter how many example prey they bring them.

Gmork - 2017-04-04 "They don't have the need for relationships in the wild" is very different from "they don't have the capacity for social emotions".
|
Oscar Wildcat - 2017-04-04 There was a show recently where cameras and trackers were distributed about a town to all the cat owners, in order to study the behavior of cats. The results didn't surprise me. The two most important things for cats are 1) food and 2) other cats. They hunted, stole food from each other, and visited with their neighbors. Sometimes to find a mate, sometimes to fight a rival, and sometimes because they were just bored and looking for action.
Your attitudes about animals are a throwback to the previous century. I'm always shocked when they crop up, and they still do to this day.

Bort - 2017-04-05 Felis catus has not been a solitary creature since Sumerian times, at least, when agriculture / grain storage / E-Z-2-Find prey provided a very strong selection pressure towards social behavior in tighter quarters. Cats aren't all overt about it the way dogs are, but anyone with a multi-cat home knows that cats find ways to accommodate one another, and possibly even enjoy one another's presence.
Speaking of Sumerians:

More caring than a Kuwaiti housewife.

Caminante Nocturno - 2017-04-05 Give it a camera phone and access to a social media account and watch its sympathy disappear.

Enlightened self-interest at work. Even the cat, a low-level player, knows that her retractable claws and keen night vision are useless in the face of the human dying and leaving her unable to operate a can opener.

My cat lives in the bathroom. He's always in there, just chilling in the shower. I have realized that this is because he prefers to suck the water out of the tap than drink the water that I put in his water bowl. It doesn't matter what I do to convince him that it's easier, he gets in there and licks the dripping bathtub tap. He's an oddball.

Oscar Wildcat - 2017-04-05 It's fresher, and closer to how they naturally drink ( lapping dew off a surface, for example ). Also, if you don't know this, get your cat some grass ( a divot of the lawn kind, not a bag of the cannabis kind ). They will thank you.
