welp!

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2017-05-13

This must be those who you US people call 'white trash' ?

Monkey Napoleon - 2017-05-13

Even though she's expressing some shitty ideas, she's being perfectly congenial and polite about it. She has thought about her position enough to clearly know there is ethical problems with it, but not enough to really go into detail about what they are. She also looks clean and her priorities are straight enough to go to the trouble of wearing clean clothes in good repair on camera.

Real white trash isn't just ignorant, but belligerently ignorant. They wouldn't waste the clean clothes on some jew dyke whore from the fake news station. That's an honor reserved for church, nascar, and the Randy Travis concert. The lady is also not fat and doesn't have a crotch goblin with zero sense of boundary on a harness/leash crawling up and down her screaming.

She didn't mention immigrants even once, so... there you go.

15th - 2017-05-13

Yeah, not quite white trash. More of a Labrador/cunt blend.

Mister Yuck - 2017-05-13

White Trash is the name given to poor whites by class discriminating fucks like the woman above. See Monkey Napoleon's comment for the stereotypes such fucks believe about them.

M-DEEM - 2017-05-13

Exactly right. In the US its perfectly acceptable to hate poor ignorant people as long as they are white. If you're too much of a coward to admit you hate everyone that isn't as enlightened as you are it's a-ok to bitch endlessly about white trash and construct elaborate narratives about the terrible things they all like and do

Monkey Napoleon - 2017-05-13

Yes, yes. Classism. Now, excuse my while I eyeroll so hard my eyes pop out of my head and explode.

Cena_mark - 2017-05-13

I grew up around people like this. I hate them. Everything revolves around one though process, "what will it do with to the real-estate value". Nope can't have something put your precious picket fenced investment at risk. Let's just dump all the poor people into a single forgotten pocket of the city where there's no jobs, grocery stores, or public transportation, and then act surprised and disgusted when they form gangs. But that's okay, we'll just vote Republican and make sure those poors face stiff mandatory sentences so they'll spend the rest of their lives in a private prison for possession.

These suburban housewives are despicable. Went to college, joined the sorority, got their Mrs. degrees, now they act like they've accomplished something.

SolRo - 2017-05-14

She's a wannabe blue-blood

Old_Zircon - 2017-05-14

I second everything Cena said.

Although were I'm from they're matched if not outnumbered by upper class liberals who have their hearts in the right place but also have massive blind spots when it comes to their own class privilege. You know, the sort of people who will, for example, donate to charities to help women in third world countries and then turn around and hire a maid service that pays mostly ethnic-minority women starvation wages to do heavy manual labor that constantly exposes them to toxic, often carcinogenic, chemicals while providing them with no benefits or job security because they are technically contractors, and see nothing contradictory or problematic in that.

I'd still take them over this woman any day, though. Lesser of two evils.

Cena_mark - 2017-05-14

Another thing I hate about the upper middle class is how they act like they're rich, yet they're far closer to the homeless than they are to the 1%. They're just a few bad breaks from having to buy a PT Cruiser out of desperation. She even illustrates the delusion herself when she thinks that poor people being envious of her would be like her being envious of millionaires.

Ninehells - 2017-05-14

Cena and IZ hit it pretty square, though I would add there is an inherent two-bit racism in the liberal brand of classism versus good old fashioned honest racism: the former hides behind a whole lot of euphemism in order to say "I'm scared of the world," while the latter says "I'm scared of the world, so you should be scared of me being scared of you."

Which honestly, I am. Way too much money to be made off of the torch-and-pitchfork crowd.

simon666 - 2017-05-14

"They're just a few bad breaks from having to buy a PT Cruiser out of desperation."

Exactly.

The Mothership - 2017-05-13

Well at least she's self aware that she's horrible? 5 stars regardless.

jangbones - 2017-05-13

I disagree, she knows she SOUNDS horrible but she really thinks she is a perfectly moral and upstanding citizen

Mister Yuck - 2017-05-13

God damn it.

smoothw - 2017-05-13

Truly awful.

somedongus - 2017-05-13

This is Somedongus's complete lack of surprise. The funny thing is that those McMansions are so massively unclassy and were built mainly out of radioactive Chinese drywall by undocumented illegal immigrants.

tesla_weapon - 2017-05-14

She is the decomposing crap of the world. Also she thinks her hair is stylish, but it isn't.

Monkey Napoleon - 2017-05-13

The really tragic thing about this is she's on to something.

It's so totally misguided to project it onto the people themselves, but the way society, even the most progressive elements, treats people on assistance is so totally fucked up.

Of course they can't put down roots, and of course that's bad for communities, but only because they're always one piece of humiliating "prove you're actually poor and not stealing this FABULOUS lifestyle" paperwork away from losing everything.

The help that's available to people for navigating entitlement programs and freeing themselves from them is a fucking joke. I know from experience that it's really difficult not to adopt the mindset of "fuck everything" when your DHS caseworker is in charge of reporting for 5,000 or even 10,000 people. He or she has time to devote maybe 3 - 5 minutes every six months or so... just enough to make sure the paperwork you've already filled out on your own is in order.

Monkey Napoleon - 2017-05-13

I guess my point is that she's just echoing the way the government and society in general treats people.

"I GUESS we shouldn't let you die, so here's some things that will statistically decrease the likelihood of that... but don't think for a second you're not subhuman garbage."

Mister Yuck - 2017-05-13

I angrily wore my insulting comment above before I read this comment. You're not a classist jerk like the fuck in the video, I'm sorry I wrote that.

Monkey Napoleon - 2017-05-13

Yeah, I was just expressing that nobody would ever really consider that lady white trash... whether they should think of anybody like that or not.

Monkey Napoleon - 2017-05-13

Anyway, I consider myself a fairly literate and intelligent person. If I had somewhat of a struggle navigating the system, I can't even imagine what it's like for someone who never had the benefit of completing the relatively nice public education I had or for someone who has legitimate learning disabilities and/or is of less than average intelligence.

Take a bus 2 hours each way to get to the office, wait in line for 2.5 hours at the absolutely slammed DHS office during the less-than-bankers-hours of operation for the office (like 10 - 3:30), and then get turned away because that's not a birth certificate... that's a copy of live birth! It says that's what you need on the website, where you can also sign up for this while not bothering us, but you're poor. Go on down to the privatized employment department if you need internet. That's all they're good for anyway, free internet. That office is on the OTHER side of town though. Oops, come back tomorrow because now it's 2 and there's no way you'll get back through the queue again.

Why aren't there more people working here? Well, it's like this: you see, even though most call center work is more complicated then this and they can get even people in foreign countries who barely speak english to do it... the people that work here are in charge of their own reporting to state government with no independent oversight. We don't really want to feel like we're wasting our lives, so we make the state require a degree in social work for this job even though our caseload is so heavy that we're basically glorified secretaries at this point. Hahah I haven't done any social work in 15 years but I still get paid like I have.

UBI WHEN?

Old_Zircon - 2017-05-14

Monkey, we'll never get UBI because sustained political engagement takes a lot of time and a fair amount of money, and if everyone in this country was guaranteed a basic living wage then suddenly poor people would have the time to actually stand up for themselves. And fear of actual majority rule is pretty bipartisan.

Old_Zircon - 2017-05-14

("never" is an exaggeration, I actually think the issue will be forced eventually simply because the current economic system has been propped up on manufactured need and secularized predestination theology for almost a century since the link between corporate profit and corporate reinvestment broke back in the 20s, and it is simply unsustainable in the long run, so either we're going to need some sort of universalized social support to avert a complete collapse of social order or we're going to lose a massive portion of our population to pandemic, war, and/or famine, it's just a matter of which happens first.

Old_Zircon - 2017-05-14

/also yeah, fuck means testing in all forms.

Cena_mark - 2017-05-14

In suburbia everyone is pretty much in the same income level. What I've seen in NYC are communies with people of all income levels living and functioning together. I don't see why suburbanites think living near poors is so terrible. Suburbia sucks, NYC rocks.

Binro the Heretic - 2017-05-13

I too agree that good decent hard-working regular people shouldn't have to live around a bunch of spoiled shitty soccer moms.

chumbucket - 2017-05-13

I watched this entire program on Frontline the other night and learned that the only reason developers want to build new low income housing is for the sweet lucrative tax breaks.

Leviathant - 2017-05-13

In Philly, they promise low-income housing in order to get development bonuses like being able to add a few stories to the building, or to occupy more than 70% of the lot size, and then, when the building's done, they reneg (Those low-income apartments we told you about now start at $1400/mo for 500sqft, lol sorry guys!), but the city doesn't have the spine or the teeth to do anything about it.

SolRo - 2017-05-14

They also just scam the system, like colluding with contractors to inflate construction costs as much as 10x or more.

I'm 100% certain any attempts to keep the system honest were blocked by pro-business republicans because regulation bad

jfcaron_ca - 2017-05-14

It's long been established that you cannot fault a private interest for maximizing profit. "Greed is good" etc.

What'rye, some kinda human with a value system based on something other than fiat currency value?!

Bort - 2017-05-14

You can fault a private interest for operating out of overweening greed, but you can't really expect them to be better than that out of the goodness of their hearts.

Which is why regulation is not only reasonable, but completely necessary.

jfcaron_ca - 2017-05-14

Unfortunately the inexorable logic of economics is now also the default value system of government. The government is no longer the servant/protector of the people, they are the air traffic controllers of the economy.

We need a new political movement with explicit morality or something.
