My mother's greatest fear was that we would poison ourselves. She kept a large bottle of ipecac on hand and was never shy about using it. I remember once, one of my brothers claimed he had tasted a rhododendron flower. In mom's mind, that meant we must have all been gathered around the rhody bush feasting on the leaves. So, out came the ipecac and we spent the next hour stumbling around the yard barfing.
