I've always liked Major Kira for setting a good example of how a religious person SHOULD try to use her religion to inform her choices. I am not very impressed with the way most people try to live their faith -- primarily when it's convenient and makes them feel holier-than-thou -- but there are also a few people out there who try to use their religious beliefs to better themselves and their world, and I dug Major Kira for doing that. Sisko was the reverse of Dukat, and Kira was the reverse of Wynn.

Bobonne - 2017-09-19 I'm fairly sure that Kira was supposed to inspire a lot of feeling toward her as a character, be it insufferability or affection, and they were probably (including Nana herself) intentionally going for it being both at the same time in different people, even.
I mean, say what you will about her, but she's no wallflower, and apathy isn't in the cards for most people when it comes to her.

So, I don't read the comments on most youtube videos, but I happened to take a gander at them here (despite youtube making it far harder to do so for home PC viewers, I don't know what mobile is like, with their new UI update), and...not only are they now only displaying the top comment in a thread of replies, rather than three or four, but they also seem to be actively hiding comments, as well.
I'll see '8 replies', click it, and get 3. 11, and get 5. 3, and get none.
Is this just me? Am I taking crazy pills here? I get that youtube comments are actively contributing, on average, on the whole, to making a worse world, so I shouldn't care about this too much, but...what the hell?

The problem with using DS9 as a metaphorical comparison to the real world is that in DS9 the Prophets are a measurable, real thing that actually exists. The Bajorans see them as gods, the Federation sees them as aliens, but they are actually there and they exhibit real powers over the real world that we can see function with our own eyes (opening and closing the wormhole, for example) and their predictions come true with reasonable accuracy. So, religious worship of the Prophets is, at least on some basic level, not a delusion or irrational. They are actually real and their existence is falsifiable and testable.
In the real world, there is no evidence whatsoever on even the most simplistic level that Gods are real or have any measurable effect on the universe and nothing the Gods are supposed to be capable of doing is testable by any realistic way, so tolerance of a complete unscientific belief system that can't stand up to even the scrutiny of a 5 year old's questions really shouldn't be tolerated in any way and deserves no tolerance.
