English subtitles accurate in more ways than one.

Leopoldo Galtieri was a -fucking monster- and the Idi Amin of South America. Nationalist Argentinians can't seem to understand that maybe, just maybe that claim those islands largely objected to the occupation wasn't just British propaganda.

As a current resident of Buenos Aires and a person whose family lived here during the conflict, I've heard quite enough about those nigh-useless, barely habitable South Atlantic sea rocks.

The Malvinas are not a political issue as much as an article of Argentine nationalist faith, and it's awful hard to argue with someone who starts from that premise.

They're more than just rocks. The value in claiming such rocks is really about the EEZ (Exclusive Economic Zone). That's why so many shitty little rocks around the world are contested.

I mean, true enough, and there's a bit of fishing and a bit of oil there. And a link to the Arctic, for the Brits. But I'll eat an oxblood Doc Martin if the enormous riches that every Argentine swears lie just to the left of the Falklands are actually there.

So far, most of their wealth has been theoretical. Frozen methane deposits? Well, eh, maybe useful, at some point. Perhaps. Contested territories tend to be full of resources that often don't exist when all the blood's been shed. Ask Paraguay how their economic exploitation of the Chaco is going after they won it from Bolivia in a nastly, needless war.

Give the Malvinas back before Brexit.

That's my plan for eternal renewable energy from the heat and wind generated by all the red-faced Brits screeching on Question Time.
