There are people who would rather pretend something wouldn't happen, or deny the reality of what was done to them. I wouldn't be surprised if she experienced similar harassment or abuse in her earlier years and was just told to "suck it up" or "boys will be boys," and was repeating the same stuff to him.

I just double checked an I'm wrong about Feldman and Spielberg. Crispin Glover has said some stuff about Spielberg but apparently in Feldman's autobiography he names Spielberg and Michael Jackson as the only two adults (including his parents) he was really safe around, at least according to reviews.

But, but, I was born in the middle of the Carter years, so the last few decades I was taught that equal access to the tools of oppression was liberation.

It's also important to remember that you totally can conveniently blame the world's problems on a "system" that can be measured and quantified, and that all you have to do is tweak it slightly and then give the institutions that historically marginalize and oppress people more power, because that will fix it.

I think it's also important to remember that if you design something that governs the totally not random actions of large scale populations juuusssst right, you won't have any bad people who will leverage and organize to leverage the exploitation of the weak for their own gain and you can work on solving problems, one at a time, and then never worry about them ever again.

It is completely reasonable that you can hand human beings a perfect society that they never had to work for or care about or take an active role in and expect them to not completely fuck it up as quickly as possible.
