If the EU had any common sense it would have just started a war to keep Britain from succeeding the Union.

garcet71283 - 2017-10-25

Because every European war has ended so well for the mainland...

Raggamuffin - 2017-10-25

Also, half the point of the EU is stop Europe from having wars with itself.

Robin Kestrel - 2017-10-25

Why can't everyone be right, like me?

That guy - 2017-10-25

I ask myself that every day.

tesla_weapon - 2017-10-25

Let's just agree to agree.

A lot of pro Brexit voters reasons for supporting it were along the lines of..
Dont want immigrants taking out jobs, diluting our Christian British culture, and leeching off our welfare.
Which, though xenophobic, is quite rational, and I dare say it pragmatic in these times of decline.
The big problem is that Britain leaving the EU doesnt really affect those things at all, and will actually just worsen the issues the pro Brexiters care about. eg. There'll be even less jobs for the immigrants to 'steal' now.
Politicians bald faced lied to the voters about it, and they were too mind-bogglingly ignorant to know any better or have the werewithal to do any research and draw any conclusions. Eg. *After* the vote there was a huge increase in the google searches from the UK of "what is the EU". So it seems many voters voted yea or nea without even knowing what it was they were voting to leave or remain in.

Staggering ignorance, lazyness, and an propensity to be sheep is just standard human behaviour it seems, and has been part of politics since its inception, Eg. Rhetoric has been considered a vital subject for gentlemen to learn since greek times.
The problem nowadays is that manipulating the masses is now a well developed and advanced field, almost a science! Since Edward Bernays the field has become more and more sophisticated and effective, and mass media, social media, and so on are just even more powerful tools added to the arsenal.

So, its not really peoples opinions are wrong, just their ignorance and apathy + powerful manipulation tools, means elite interest groups can now get the masses to vote for anything regardless of their opinions or concerns.

i wish i had more stars...

Bisekrankas - 2017-10-25

Have my stars

I think ultimately this boils down to the public school system forgetting that creating critical free thinking individuals is a main concern far outshadowning scoring well on standard tests.

Critical thinking doesnt seem to become a concern until college

tesla_weapon - 2017-10-25

I'm going to have to stop you right there - I've been, excelled, and quit university before completing six different times, and every time, being spoon fed scientific doctrine (or history) was a large concern.

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2017-10-25

Wow tesla you sound mental! (Please take that in the spirit in which it was given, as a compliment!)

Was that not extremely expensive?
Couldnt you suck it up, do the minimum the get the piece of paper and use the resultant massive amounts of spare time to indulge your intellect/hobbies/whatever?

Also, always nice to be appreciated

+ I meant to type 'xenophobic and callous' above.

tesla_weapon - 2017-10-25

I am completely mental, certified, detained, medicated, welfared and generally unnecessary. We have pseudo-free state paid education in Australia, and thus, so far my 10 or 12 semesters have cost me nothing except tiny pieces of my soul. I really never wanted the piece of paper, as the thing it afforded me to take part in, I deemed worse than getting it in the first place.

Most of my spare time over the last decade was spent doing those shitty buddhist colouring in things, and listening to the limited mp3s I had available while I incessantly walked back and forth in the ward's courtyard.

But things are better now, I'm stable - economically and mentally/emotionally - and I'm just hanging out and focusing on being a local artist.

And if I want to be brutally honest, brutally insane, and a downright braggart, I'm one of those annoying genius' who never took any classes, never read the textbooks, and would show up and ace my exams. And I started to question what the fuck I was doing there...

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2017-10-26

/Hits poetv 'friend' button for 'tesla weapon' .. Oh it doesnt have that, welp!

tesla_weapon - 2017-10-26
