Yeah companies like Blizzard just mindlessly follow the metrics / profits. This bullshit just seems to generally work. Humans like gambling.. Eg The macro-organization / decision-making of our global civilization is centred around the gambling (stock markets, finance industry etc) of the wealthy

Blizzard isn't responsible for creating a damn thing ever. They're a company that takes others ideas and adapts them to their IP (which was also based on others ideas).

Their success often makes idiots say stupid things like 'blizzard did it first'.

in FPS terms, TF2 had boxes when Overwatch was still called "Titan", and you could/still can sell any old hat for however much you want on the community market.

We're talking about loot grinding in general. I am pushing for the idea that Diablo really codified and fine-tuned it, and wove it into the fabric of the game in a way that no previous game had done, and that this was what loosened up the assholes of gamers for the reaming that was to come.
