Actually, gong to walk back that last part a bit. It's fun but after two or three videos the guy's overbearing sarcasm just gets grating. I understand subtlety and youtube success aren't exactly compatible but he really could have toned it down a bit and made his points even more effectively. As it is, the ones I've watched so far jut feel like they're spoonfeeding the humor to me, although they're early in the run so I imagine he probably improves.

The "dystopias" one in particular. I get it, you don't like The Hunger Games, but couldn't you have made room for anything else in the video? Did it all have to be a thinly veiled rant about The Hunger Games?

There's also some weird, pervasive gender stuff bubbling just beneath the surface in a lot of these.

Just in general, the more I watch the more I smell the smell of Reddit.

Basically, this guy is criticizing book-mill Young Adult series books for being book-mill Young Adult series books and comes off like he hasn't actually read much that's not contemporary and aimed at people under 14 that wasn't part of an undergraduate survey course of Western literature.


That was a quick subscribe-to-unsubscribe cycle for me.

I get that cyberpunk is filled with clichés but I feel like this is like picking up a fantasy novel and complaining it's full of dragons and knights.

I think it's hard to make bad fiction funny and there aren't that many people really attempting to do what he's doing. I think it might be hit or miss depending on your familiarity and/or affinity for the genre he's commenting on.

I view him as doing what Red Letter Media likes to do which is poke fun in a loving way at fiction. I really liked his video on how to avoid cliches, which I didn't submit but really recommend. I also really really liked the last one I submitted on taking criticism because it has broad appeal across the board.

SO watched altered carbon recently, and it displays so many of these things. But the most blatant thing is Kinnamans complete inability to convey any resemblence of emotion. Just go rewatch that scene when he finds he murdered children. Actually, going o go and see if I can find that right now.

goddamn that was depressing, dont serach 'kinnaman bad acting' on youtube. That place is so crappy now.
