These cereals are both from before my time and seeing ads for them is so weird. I have no context for why a little alien and a cowboy are involved in some sort of intense breakfast rivalry. All I know is that the lady's survival was clearly not their first priority.
I can only assume that Captain Crunch cleverly pitted them against each other so they would distract themselves while he methodically conquered the Quaker cereal world. And that's why today, the Cap'n has like five different cereals and Quisp and Quake have zero.
Cap'n Crunch was deliberately designed to resemble Jay Ward himself, after Ward appeared on Johnny Carson wearing a Gilbert and Sullivan outfit, waving a three foot long salami around, and having a panic attack that resulted in him giggling like a maniac and not responding to anything Carson asked.
I've tried FOR YEARS to find video of it, it's well documented as having happened, but no luck.
