it looks like maybe they didn't do a terrible job.

This actually looks and sounds like it might be really good.

Yeah, like they said, I'm actually cautiously optimistic about this now! Which I definitely didn't expect.

Let's put it this way: when this project was first being shopped around, it looked very seriously like it was going to end up being made by someone like Eli Roth or Rob Zombie or some other filmmaker who lacked neither the talent or the subtle understanding of why giallo movies worked in any, way, shape or form. It was in production hell for a long time, but it was seeming like it was going to wind up some kind of Blumhouse production or something geared for teenagers or some such nonsense. The fact it wound up in the hands of a real director who wants to actually do something with it and what looks like a decent cast is nothing short of amazing. So...it may definitely work out for the best.
