Two Jar Slave - 2019-02-12

Chinese folks in Toronto do parades and hand out pamphlets about this issue quite often. It is horrifying, and I'm glad to be informed.

Question for casualcollapse: What will my outrage do to affect the government of China's treatment of its minorities? Do you even communism, bro?

casualcollapse - 2019-02-12

Quiet 2 jar or I'll make it three..I kid I kid.. but in all seriousness I would have to guess that lobbying politicians would be the only way to put pressure on China...which is obviously not going to happen.

My own personal experience with FG left a really bad taste. To put it succinctly, yes they’re persecuted. But they’re also a cult and happy to use the persecution as a membership drive and not to actually drive change, which is super creepy as well.

While we're on the topic, does everyone know that Shen Yun is Falun Gong evangelism yet? Because I only found out this year, and that explains sooooo much.

Didn’t know it, but had wondered about it, especially when they added the “banned in China” tagline. Knew it had to be something the government is suppressing (FG, Chinese Muslim, Tibet etc) to be banned.

I was surprised when I saw Falun Gong displays in Hong Kong; figured that would have been quashed by now. Though right next to her was a “Falung Gong is a cult” protestor and display who I assume was government funded.

Shen yun is Falun Gong. Epoch times is Falun Gong. Most organized and outspoken criticism by the Chinese diaspora against the CCP is Falun Gong. They’re a kooky cult, but the way Chinese authorities treat anyone who steps out of line is inhuman.

It's like the concentration camps for the Chinese Muslims. The world looks the other way because they want to do business.

poorwill - 2019-02-12

yeah, because what the world needs is more moral outrage smh

casualcollapse - 2019-02-12

Yeah..I agree, there's way too much moral outrage in the world but it is for the very worst things people could be outraged over.

Cena_mark - 2019-02-13

The reason why this goes unchallenged is because everyone wants to cozy up to China and do business with them. They all want money from China so they look the other way on their human rights abuses.

jfcaron_ca - 2019-02-13

I think the reason there isn't a lot of popular outrage about this is that as awful as the treatment of dissenters (including the Falun Gong) by China is, the specific claim of organ harvesting from political prisoners has only circumstantial evidence.

poorwill - 2019-02-13

also, i mean ... it also just sounds like bullshit that a crazy cult would make up to drum up attention. and china has a record of horrendous human rights abuses, but also a ton of attendant outlandish human rights abuse conspiracy theories. it's a hard to swallow story. i'm not saying it's wrong! but it checks all the boxes.(my last post was a joke, btw ... wasn't sure that came across)
