Clips like this are why I understand the need for "trigger warnings". This kind of encounter gets my heart rate up like the ones of Russians dangling from abandoned towers.
It's because I can totally see myself in the lady's position and freaking out about a driver doing an illegal-and-aggressive-but-commonplace thing. It's not rational, but if you recognize cars for the dangerous things they are, a careless driver can easily trigger a fight-or-flight response.

I firmly believe people need to stop driving so aggressively and also need to be aware of pedestrians and yield to them, but I don’t think I’d push my baby carriage in front of a car to make that point.
Meerkat - 2019-04-09 The thing about pedestrians I really don't like is when they just walk in front of cars without looking. MEET THE DRIVER'S EYES TO MAKE SURE S/HE SEES YOU.
I had a pretty close call myself, waiting to turn into a street and watching oncoming traffic for a break. Saw a break, slapped the car into gear and started letting up on the clutch and LO AND BEHOLD some guy is walking his little daughter in front of my car. Clutch back down, crisis averted.
Guy saw my signal flashing (I assume) and should have seen the back of my head looking at oncoming traffic and just walked right in front of my car trusting I guess that I could somehow see him.
Anyway that's my rant, I hope you liked it.

jfcaron_ca - 2019-04-09 The responsibility to be careful rests of the person capable of doing the most damage[1]. The crosswalk (and every intersection is an unmarked crosswalk) is a place specifically for drivers to pay extra attention. If you can't handle the stress of not running people over, maybe you shouldn't drive.
[1] In the case of this video, I suppose this would mean she shouldn't have kids.
Meerkat - 2019-04-09 Yeah that's why I checked again, just force of habit. But I could see someone checking, then waiting for a break in traffic, then peeling out without checking again and not expecting there to be a guy with a kid standing in front of their car. Seriously, this guy came out of nowhere, he was not in view 10 seconds earlier.
I always make sure the driver sees me before I get in front of a vehicle. I don't trust anyone to be responsible.
Mister Yuck - 2019-04-09 Mr Caron, that's a bit of an absolutist position. The responsibility is on everyone to try and navigate traffic successfully. No driver can look every direction at once and everyone gets distracted. We all got to cooperate and not put ourselves in dangerous positions, even when we're 'right'.
jfcaron_ca - 2019-04-09 It's a deliberately-chosen absolutist position. Let's get rid of cars (and do all the hard work to reconfigure our lives and cities and industries to deal with that simple notion) and make our lives better.
Mister Yuck - 2019-04-09 Okay. In the mean time don't get hit by a car.
Old_Zircon - 2019-04-10 I can't remember the last time I could see a driver's face clearly, much less make eye contact. On account of the fact that there's, you know, a one-way mirror reflecting the sky between you and them. I guess maybe if it was late at night and they turned their interior lights on and you shone a flashlight in your own face then yeah, you might be able to make eye contact. Every once in a while in the summer it'll be possible to make some kind of eye contact through an open window, but usually it's not an option.
Around here you're lucky if a driver doesn't drive straight into a crosswalk against the light while signaling for a turn they never make (which happened to me three times in one week at the same intersection last year, although usually it's more like once or twice a month).

Accidie - 2019-04-09
This woman is just fucking insane. That was downright reasonable seeming driving, even if it rolled a stop sign or something. Pushing a baby in front of a car and then pounding on the windshield while riding the hood down the block is entirely unreasonable. This is not really a conversation worth having guys.

glasseye - 2019-04-09 It's not bad etiquette, it's like running a red light.
Nominal - 2019-04-10 Glasseye, glancing up from the law books to tell us more bloody accidents would be avoided if only society stopped victim blaming batshit pedestrians and unfit mothers.
Accidie - 2019-04-10 animegurl - I wouldn't say she darted in front of the car so much as PUSHED A BABY IN FRONT OF IT.
animegurl1000 - 2019-04-10 That too. "The car will surely stop if I push my baby in its path!" is definitely not the product of a sound mind.
Mister Yuck - 2019-04-09
I'm a big fan of everybody who drives around the baby carriage instead of stopping and putting that baby out of danger.
Accidie - 2019-04-09 yeah, they're the real heroes of this story
Rosebeekee - 2019-04-10 They probably thought if they got out and moved the carriage the mother would chimp out on them while screaming that her baby was being abducted or something.
Marlon Brawndo - 2019-04-14 The human thing to do would be to wait right behind the carriage and stop the car to make sure no one else went through in case someone knocked it over.
People are fucking selfish idiots.

CAHNS! THERE WAS NO BABY IT WAS FULL OF CAHNS!
boner - 2019-04-10 Funny you should say that. I saw a couple pushing a stroller across the street last weekend and I thought about this video. When I looked into the stroller, it was full of hamburger buns.
casualcollapse - 2019-04-10 There is a woman at my apartment complex that uses a baby stroller for everything but a baby
Ugh - 2019-04-10
got that pioneer attitude like a mother of ten who can afford to lose one here or there
Ugh - 2019-04-10 the street divides here
you may:
1. cross the street with impunity as is your right
2. wait until you've been waved through by a motorist
Ugh - 2019-04-10 your mother has lost her temper
you lose:
4 wheels
1 blanket
255 bullets
1 baby

Rosebeekee - 2019-04-10
Uhh... am I blind or are there no stop signs anywhere at that intersection?
animegurl1000 - 2019-04-10 I can see part of a stop sign at the far left of the video starting at 0:08 (it's mostly obscured by another sign). According to an article I read the intersection where this happened (Soudan and Forman) is an all-way stop.
boner - 2019-04-10
I guess this is a novelty to see in a suburban neighborhood. If you work downtown you will regularly see people with strollers darting in and out of rush hour traffic without looking up from their phone or dropping the coffee cup.
Ugh - 2019-04-10 it's definitely super dramatic but i think a lot of the fun stems from the fact that she treats her baby like a prop for a bas rutten bar fight tutorial
Marlon Brawndo - 2019-04-14
I didn't think it was going to get crazier and then BOOM the crazy went up a few notches. This clip delivered.
