Considering that in some US states it’s completely legal to murder someone for trespassing, I think he got off lightly

Context:

Belgian dude dirtbiking spooked the shepherds' horses and overturned their cart, damaging it in the process. You can see the damaged cart and the horses next to it at the very begining of the video.

Belgian dude got off his dirbike and went (he says) to apologize and offer to pay for the damages, the sheperds had something else in mind.

So the guy got off his bike to make restitution, and he got a beat down? That'll learn him to do the right thing!

There are still semi-nomadic Basque shepherds in the Northeast USA.


Sheep herding and dirtbikery are both pretty terrible for the environment (sheep may be even worse than cows as far as 9vergrazing and polluting water) so I can't say I'm too sympathetic to either side in this particular conflict.

The running joke in the 90s was that they were quite wealthy and some of them really were. Since they make their money by both exploiting their own flocks and by taking other people's smaller flocks too (flock-sitting you might call it). The thing was because they needed to tend the flocks 24/7 they were always unwashed, unkempt and smelly but they had fat stacks in the bank.
