The Hindenburg disaster happened in 1937. Magnetic recording tape hadn't been invented.

If the machine recording the narrative had been running fast, the playback would have been slower, making the voice lower.

Perhaps the disc recorder had been running slow that day, makeing the broadcaster's voice a lot higer than it was?
