You really shouldn't eat fish out of the Columbia River because of all the radiation caused by Hanford over the years. Especially Sturgeon.

5 for cool nuclear era question-deflecting grizzled nerdy dude.

A family member of mine worked on cleanup at Hanford. He told stories of workers that would dip their sunglasses and cigarettes in the radioactive goo so that they would glow green.

I went there when I was really young, before it was decommissioned. Who knows what THAT did to me.

I'm loving the shit out of Nuke week, always been entirely fascinated with anything nuclear.

OG POE member mormolyke has, in her career as a composer, been flown out to the Tri-Cities area by the Mid-Columbia Mastersingers, to support concerts they've performed singing her work. They're a pretty incredible group of people, and it's a fascinating part of the country. You can find some really interesting stuff in antique shops and thrift stores in a town where the football team's name is the Richland Bombers. Do a Google Image Search to see their logo!

The year before we first met the group, they performed a concert in the B Reactor, "Nuclear Dreams" including new original works about the region that were perhaps a little more introspective than the football team - got them a couple of VERY ANGRY LETTERS, apparently. They also sang an arrangement of Roll on Columbia Roll On.

It's a lot to take in.

The photos from the event looked amazeballs, and I think there's even some nice footage on YouTube from the concert.
