It would be an interesting sociological question as to how many police officers are motivated to the profession by a need (insecurity) for appreciation; then I suppose if that were the case, how it contributes to a feed back loop where cops get disgruntled about not being appreciated and therefore act out more against those whom they think do not appreciate them, which leads to more entrenched non-appreciation, etc etc.

Policing isn't even in the top 10 of most dangerous jobs in America. Give the respect, praise, and free food to sanitation workers. They have a far more dangerous job, and are far more important to society.

Hey Bostrom / SolRo, I get what you were trying to say there. Personally I don’t think we should dehumanise _anyone_, even outright monsters. But it’s a matter of context, that context being a deliberate massive obscene unforgivable atrocity.

If someone wears a uniform associated with that institutional atrocity and dares to complain about being under-appreciated or not getting a damn McMuffin, they are the problem.

Police have had decades to clean up their act. They've seen this demand over and over again, and they always resist. Police and their unions consistently defend their worst members. Look at what the NYPD did to protect Daneil Pantelo. Look what the NYPD did when Mayor Dinkins tried to get a civilian oversight board, they rioted. So no, still fuck'em. This isn't about good cops and bad cops, their entire system and culture is rotten.

So after decades of shitiness and blocking reform the people have finally had enough and now they cry and whine like they're the victims. Standing behind a thin skinned blue line.

I'm taking pleasure in her having a ridiculous temper tantrum because (if she has actually been a cop for multiple years) here are some things I know about her:

1. She has witnessed, or participated in, physical abuse and/or murder of innocent people and has not reported it.

2. She has lied to help convict innocent people.

3. She is aware of other officers in her agency that commit crimes like murder, assault, robbery, DUI, and spousal abuse, and she has never reported them.

So why do I give this person a pass? She knowingly participates in abuse of people like me every day. She knowingly contributes to a racist and classist mass incarceration crisis unlike anything ever seen in human history. And she clearly feels entitled to special treatment and admiration for doing this!

When you think about it, the REAL holocaust was the hurt feelings of the SS officers when people made fun of them.
