A hurdle that can be overcome but: where do you house the AI? Can fighters accommodate the hardware required to run the AI? Perhaps they can; autonomous cars do, but maybe the AI pilots need more of different hardware or computing power. It seems running anything off aircraft would incur too much latency and would be susceptible to jamming; but if everything runs on the jet you probably have scaling issues with how to coordinate multiple jets on the same side to ensure they're not working against each other strategically. So then you need AI running on each jet, but then another AI that is taking the input from those AI and feeding operable info back to them. I duno. I'm no expert. Just riffing.
