Trump doesn't anger me. It's his followers who piss me off.

Both are awful, both are culpable. Obviously some 'followers' are just dumb, but a lot of them are mean and hateful.

I think there's a lot of people who know two things about Trump.

*He's the infallible business genius of The Apprentice
*His 2016 upset victory flummoxed the mainstream media.

Those two things, all by themselves, explain how Trump could become a folk hero in the flyover states. I think that a lot of people fail to appreciate the impact of The Apprentice. It was on TV for 14 years. That's almost three times as long as he's been a politician.

What this leaves out is Trump's entire life, in which he is not an infallible business genius. Eventually, Trump is going to lose all but his looniest supporters. Reality will win. How long will that take? Might be a couple of months. If Trump loses, the myth that Trump can't lose, a myth that, frankly, has captured the imagination of the left, may be broken. It might take a longer time, perhaps much longer.

But Trump has already failed. If he wins another term, he fails bigger. I may be dead, the rest of you may be underwater, but this will end one day, and I think all men and women of good will should look to that day.

There is no future scenario where Trumpism succeeds. There’s a path where humanity outgrows this populist / ethnic hatred shit, and there’s a path where humanity goes extinct. Those are the options on the table.

You all are overthinking it. They like Trump because he enrages the people that screwed them over.

And they aren't given the option to vote to improve their situation, only to maintain it in it's unbearable current state, so instead they vote to cause harm to people like you all.

The people that screwed them over? The right has a worse record on supporting farmers than the left.

That's true about Republicans and conservatives generally but not about Trump, he says all the right stuff about trade even if he never follows through on it or ends up doing the opposite.

Compare this to the last Dem president that we had, who spent most of the last two years of his last term trying to pass a trade bill that would have made manufacturing and heavy industry nonexistent in America. We were only saved from this by the intransigence of Republicans. Some guy in Vietnam would be doing my job right now if TPP had passed.

Trump's NAFTA renegotiation was a deep betrayal of people that wanted more populist trade policy, but of course Democrats can't capitalize on that because they thought NAFTA was great and want to do something even worse as soon as they can.

Just think of all the people who MIGHT have worn masks more if Trump got onboard with that (even if albeit lazily), and how many grandmas, grandpas, husbands, wives, sisters, and brothers might not have died.

In every other community people might have had different conversations. The usual skepticism towards "liberal" ideas and so on would be there, but if Trump modeled grasping them masks like they were the damned flag on his face, they might have said, "FUCK IT, I'M GONNA MAN UP AND WEAR A MASK TOO. FOR GRANDMA."

But no, nobody had those conversations across middle and southern USA.

Hell, Herman Cain might still be alive.

This fella is a useful idiot, but I don't think the movers and shakers within the Democrat Party are nearly as worried about a second Trump presidency as the people they've whipped into a frenzy by simply pointing at Trump while he impotently 'monitors the situation'. Indeed, they're probably hoping for it because nothing will deflate all of that recently awakened liberal energy quicker than a tepid Biden presidency.
