I've been wondering if it might be a good idea for the Biden camp to float the idea to Trump privately that they aren't looking to punish him (beyond an election loss) and will work to make sure prosecutions go away/pardon him etc on the grounds that they (Biden + co) believe that executing Office of the Presidency should incur "costs" beyond the political.

But of course that's all horseshit to try and get him to bow out without taking us to brink (if we're not there already). Then once he's out of course sick the dogs on him, metaphorically.

Likliest scenario is stalling/challenging mail ballots as much as possible as a pretext to "force" legislatures to stop the counting and have the state declare Trump the winner while he's ahead from in person ballots. Bonus points for militia "poll security" starting larger scale Brooks Brothers riots to disrupt counting.

If they can't tip enough electoral votes for Trump to win, they'll try for Biden to not win either, sending into a contingent election to the house where every state gets 1 vote which Trump wins.

Yeah. I've been fretting about the 12th+20th amendment option, where the house votes. It looks like the Dems are slated to pick up some more house seats so I think Michigan and PA might go from tied to Dem majority, but that still leaves the Dems like a state away from 26 votes.

Dems have shifted en mass to mail voting this election, while the republicans now don’t trust mail voting. Irony would be that all the radicals Trump has been fluffing get a bunch of in-person polling places shut down which primarily keeps republicans from voting.

But of course, if mail in ballots show Trump losing insofar as they are votes for the Democratic nominee, then Trump will use that as evidence of a conspiracy against him, on the false presuppositions that he is always treated unfairly and that the Democrats are lying, cheating, pedos.

Which he will do no matter what happens short of him winning in a landslide of electoral and popular votes.

He is the biggest victim in the history of the planet, lest you forget.

With luck Trump will be made the biggest victim of an electoral bludgeon since Reagan 84.

There is also off the record grumbling among GOP strategists for the Senate and Congress that Trump is rotten meat now; they've gotten their tax cuts and judges, so no need to back him any further. The rationale is this: He's poison now and they'll have a better chance to purge the party of Trumpism after a huge loss, than if the election is close. So some in the GOP are already planning for a post Trump party and eyeing 2024.

I'll only get full release if trump dies of covid as it bounces back due to him running around pretending to be healthy and the stress of losing the election. tl;dr A formerly non-partisan department is removing restrictions for federal prosecutors to delve into election fraud investigations. I'm sure Bill Barr wouldn't steer us wrong.

This is going to be used to stall counting with bogus fraud claims. Then in typical Republican fashion, claim we need an emergency solution to fix the thing they intentionally broke.

As far as I'm concerned the only thing that will bring the GOP to heel the raw exercise of power, so DC, PR made states (hell, maybe even Guam or American Samoa!), perhaps court packing (to even things out), breaking up Facebook, and so on.

Court packing is the only solution right now. At least scotus will be liberal during democratic administrations instead of decades of theocratic rulings.
