Don't worry! Fox News is responding to its marginalization by the right-of-extreme-right coverage by suggesting that this was an antifa false flag operation, cuz Trump supporters don't do this kind of thing. Good to know there are still some unadulterated good guys out there.

Pouring one out for the bit of my lifespan where I thought someone who needed to learn from that fact might learn from that fact. That was before I knew about the Epistemology Wars.

Here's a thread informed by a black former Capitol Police officers of 35 years on how the Capitol Police were unprepared intentionally:

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2021-01-06

Okay, I may be proven wrong five minutes from now, but this is looking like the best possible outcome, and I am, as they say, as giddy as a schoolgirl! There's no lionizing or normalizing this monster anymore. My greatest fear was always that if he was seen as successful, future presidents would see him as a model. Some of Trump's cabinet are said to be talking about the 25th amendment. This was always headed for disaster, but as disasters go, this isn't looking too bad.

exy - 2021-01-06

best POSSIBLE outcome?

best POSSIBLE?

POSSIBLE?

SolRo - 2021-01-06

Best possible outcome; Trump died of a heart attack January 21 2017.

Pence killed himself January 22 2017 because the god voice in his head told him to.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2021-01-06

In a general way, yes. The best possible outcome is for Trump to go out with a horrifying national train wreck, something that will live forever in the annals of buttfuckery as a punchline, something that future disasters will be named after... but without causing a lot of suffering or bloodshed.

Trump does things every day that take a bigger human toll, but the visceral, moral, and symbolic impact of thousands of bearded shitheads in trucker caps looting the capitol building is just fucking beautiful, in my opinion. These deep thinkers took down the American flag, and put up a Trump flag. (Kisses fingers like the guy on the pizza box)

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2021-01-06

Oh, and Mitch McConnell isn't majority leader any more! That makes smile.

SolRo - 2021-01-07

One trumper dead, mcconnel out of power....silver lining is good.

badideasinaction - 2021-01-07

45% of Republicans polled supported the attack on congress. There is no best possible outcome here.

exy - 2021-01-07

dude the best possible outcome left the fucking station a WHILE ago

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2021-01-07

Okay, first of all, 45 percent of republicans is a minority of a minority. Secondly, what kind of poll results can we expect 12 hours after the event?

Richard Nixon.won the biggest landslide in history. Conservatives defended him through a year and a half of cascading Watergate revelations, right up to the end.

Five years later, Family Feud polled an audience for the answer to the "someone everybody hates". Nixon came in first, followed by Hitler, Stalin, and the Devil. Some things have changed since the seventies, but one thing that hasn't changed is human beings. When people trust you, and they finally can't hide anymore from the fact that you betrayed their Trust, its going to go down hard.

Hazelnut - 2021-01-07

I agree with JHM. I wanted Trump to disgrace himself and his faction on the way out the door. He certainly did that.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2021-01-07

>>>dude the best possible outcome left the fucking station a WHILE ago

I'm not sure you understand the concept of "best possible outcome." Only outcomes that have not left the station are possible, therefore qualified for best possible option. To be possible is to be possible in the present.

exy - 2021-01-07

I probably wasn't being consistent in my reasoning, and that's a real shame. But consider that entertaining any counterfactuals will require some sort of revisionist history to change some prior cause, unless you're a fatalist, in which case everything that ever happens is necessarily the best possible outcome, and that's no fun.

Anyway, I fear that the further they explore into terra incognita (overt violence between branches of gov't), the easier the eventual non-dumb version of Trump will find it to repeat an attempt. But maybe not... so far, no amount of evidence has shown itself sufficient for the profound changes required to turn this ship around, but it's faintly possible that the Capitol's desecration will be the thing that wakes enough people up.

If it's not, though--and I'm guessing it's not--then I still think that the cops actually keeping y'all qaeda outside the Capitol building would have been a better outcome. And I think it's possible that they could have done so, if they (if the right people among them) had wanted to.

exy - 2021-01-07

OTOH you may be right, judging by the fact that even Mitch McFuckingConnell started to sound reasonable in his glow of anger at the invasion. It did strip away the veneer of plausibility that everything's fine. If this means we get a 25th or even an impeachment out of it, then fine.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2021-01-07

I haven't heard what Mitch had to say, but I can guess. Trump's crazy lawyers went to Georgia, and told Trump followers not to vote in the Senate Runoff. He's probably largely responsible for Georgia going all blue in the Senate, , and that's for six full years. That means that Trump has cost them them both houses of congress, and the presidency. That means that every Republican commitee chair is going to be replaced by a Democrat. This means, especially, that Mitch doesn't get to be the grim reaper anymore.

The Qballs are trying to blame Antifa. That should tell you everything about where this shit is probably going to land. I can't tell the future, and there are still a couple of weeks. But assuming that this is as bad as it gets, but I think we knew that there was some kind of event coming, and this is pretty much the maximum damage to the Trumpists for pretty close to the minimum bloodshed. It was, after all the chambers of congress that were invaded, their home offices, and that includes Republicans. There are reports that every representative and senator who backed Trump, hoping it would boost their political ambitions, are finding themselves hated from both sides of the aisle.

Let me put it this way. Looking at today from the perspective of the election two months ago, this is just about the best possible outcome. I know that some people are still going to cling to Trump, but Mitch McConnell and Mike Pence have stopped. Lindsey Graham has stopped, or at least he's declared Biden the lawful winner. That's got to be a bellweather, whatever that means.

Nominal - 2021-01-07

Well, it worked. And you'll get what you wanted: a culture war between the Republicans and the Democrats. And if your conscience is bothering you, you should soothe it with the knowledge that you may have just saved the entire country, and all it cost was the life of one Trump rioter, and the self-respect of one POETV poster. I don't know about you, but I'd call that a bargain.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2021-01-07

I've been confronting my own willingness to maybe travel to DC to maybe get myself killed, and if that turns out not to be necessary (not yet a sure thing) then you're goddamn right, it's a fucking bargain!

I don't know what you think has been happening , but what I wanted was for Trump to leave office in a way that makes him look like an asshole for history and leaves congressional republicans standing around with their dicks in their hands.

😀

Jesus you're useless to talk to.

JHM, he was making as startrek joke, not trying to completely trash you. I like jokes.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2021-01-08

Well, I like jokes, and I might actually GET a star trek joke, but I don't fuck with copying and pasting long fractured urls on my tablet, which is already slightly cracked from me pressing to o hard with my thumb, so I have no idea what he said, and obviously, I didn't take offense.

"Whoah whoah whoah, a link with a domain AND a path? Every part of which is in plain English to the point that it plainly spells out a TV quote without even visiting it? That's too much work! Everyone else should do more work to accommodate me! Tinyurl! Tinyurl! I can't hear you! Lalalala tinyurlalalala!"

Where the Evil Homer persona had more devil's advocate nonsense, you make up for with sheer uselessness.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2021-01-08

I'm not expecting more of anyone than I expect of myself.

It's not the length of the url that's the issue. The URL is BROKEN. In order to use it, I would have to REPAIR it. You can do what you like. I don't post broken links, and I don't follow them, at least without a compelling reason.

tinyurl.com.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2021-01-08

I didn't know that was a Star Trek quote. To me, it evokes Tim Burton's Batman.

I expected blood on the streets today. I think Capitol fuckery crossed my mind but I didn't much heed it. I'm not even sure.

It's been a helluva run. Even tho we'll nominally return to status quo, USA revealed its crippling wound to the hamstring today. I used to be a democracy, til I took a fascist to the kneecap.

Do not be fooled. Trump supporters are peaceful. It was antifa that created the violence in our cities over the past several months.
