Kill yourself, kill yourself
Why don't you kill yourself?
Kill yourself, kill yourself
Don't rely on no one else
End it all, just kill yourself
Kill yourself, kill yourself NOW

... whoever put 3D in south park
(also, did they get old? these voices are weird)

SolRo - 2021-01-13

Apparently even randian supermen age.

The free market will automatically guide him to accountability and ethics!

South park creators may have a dubious socio-political-economic message.. But they're funny, the show is funny. I've certainly enjoyed and loled at many of the episodes that ive seen. For a dumb comedy cartoon thats all that matters. *No-one* should be gleaning any socio-political-economic ideas from *fiction* of any kind.

Ps. Thats what left me gobsmacked when I, via internet and fairly recently, learned of the influence of Ayn Rand book in the US. People are basing their socio-political-economic views on a motherfucking random made up fiction book with 0 data.. what?? what the fucking hell?? [screaming]

Giant surprise: Libertarians love toilet humor.

Anaxagoras - 2021-01-13

What? Fiction at its best is just another avenue by which people transmit & advocate for ideas. Hell, it's probably one of the more powerful ways to persuade people, since it (ideally) also affects its audiences emotionally. Fiction also allows authors to explore & illustrate different facets & repercussions of various ideas.

The problem with Ayn Rand's books aren't that they're fiction; it's that they're fucking childish & simplistic. Honestly, the only people who find Ayn Rand persuasive are dumb teen-agers and dumb teen-agers at heart.

SolRo - 2021-01-13

I think some of the younger alt right got some of their conditioning from South Park.

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2021-01-13

@Anaxagoras

"it's probably one of the more powerful ways to persuade people"

Yeah, thats the problem. It is, and also fiction is literally made up out of someone's head. Its not data based or scientific.

A fiction book (like 1984 for example) is basically a hypothesis, an idea. So its perfect to be used as a starting point for some actually rigorous research. but no-one should ever be drawing any conclusions from fiction.

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2021-01-13

actually basing real world decisions or policy on mere fiction is utter quackery.

Nominal - 2021-01-13

Fiction never asks to explore social/economic/philosophic ideas nor has any worth exploring?

In a long list of dumb things said by Purple Cat, that just might top them all.

SolRo - 2021-01-13

The fantasy that fiction should not and is never used to influence real world decisions has been publicly refuted when the Republican Party cited the fictional television show “24” as proof of torture being justified and effective.

Hey let's play a game! It's called "let's not deliberately be obtuse absolutists"!
