As the far right keeps doubling down the stakes keep getting bigger. The only way for Republicans to win in the long term is to tear down democracy itself. The real blow struck there was in the Senate this last week.

I want to think they're bound to lose because all they have to offer is grievance and griefing. But look how far that got Putin and Erdogan. What startest as a test of American institutions is now test of America's soul -- and still very much on a knife edge.

Crackersmack - 2021-06-25

this may feel nice to tell yourself but the facts are, voter ID laws or not, the Democrats will be blown out in 2022 because they are just refusing to do the things they explicitly promised to do; $15/hr, college loans, stimulus checks, etc etc etc are all within their power but are being denied to us by the donors

Mister Yuck - 2021-06-25

Crackersmack is right about the Dems seeing themselves up for a midterm loss, although I think he's overstating the ability of the Democrats to act and the influence of donors. Donors can't convince anyone to do anything that will lose them their jobs-if you lose your election you can't keep accepting bribes. It seems like the Biden administration at least understands the necessity of action. Manchin can block everything though, and for some reason he's choosing to.

Crackersmack - 2021-06-25

passing a $15 minimum and forgiving college debt (two wildly popular policies across partisan lines) would make *who* lose their job?

and if Manchin is really the wrench in the gears here, if he is the singular obstacle that is preventing the Biden administration from accomplishing it's stated goals and setting the Democrats up for losses in 2022... why is Manchin still on senate committees?

Hazelnut - 2021-06-25

@MisterYuck: to summarize, one side is literally Nazis. The other side may have trouble in the midterms because it’s hard to get things through Congress over the obstructions by literal Nazis.

Crackersmack - 2021-06-25

you don't need a single vote from the nazis, they cannot obstruct Democrats from passing legislation

Two Jar Slave - 2021-06-25

The Democrats' platform is "over-promise, under-deliver."

But the Republicans' platform is "power for its own sake, at any cost."

It's not actually a hard choice.

Crackersmack - 2021-06-25

if I'm making a choice based on material change in my life I have to acknowledge that Republicans gave me $1800 and Democrats gave me $1400

Two Jar Slave - 2021-06-25

I suppose it's always good to know one's price. $400 wouldn't get you a very good TV, but it's the amount crackersmack can be paid to help legitimize fascism's march to power.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2021-06-25

>>>this may feel nice to tell yourself but the facts are, voter ID laws or not, the Democrats will be blown out in 2022 because they are just refusing to do the things they explicitly promised to do;

What feels REALLY nice to me is to remember how wrong crackersmack was about the 2020 election, and how often he was wrong.

A midterm loss for Democrats is what the history suggests, but there is no map for where we're headed now. Aren't the Republicans setting themselves up for a loss with all of these obvious desperate shenanigans? I mean... Dr. Seuss? One would hope so. They keep playing to their base, but their base its the minority. It all comes down to turnout, and the turnout in the last election was historic. Trump's Big Lie could suppress Republican turnout. Honestly, who the fuck knows?

Mister Yuck - 2021-06-25

"passing a $15 minimum and forgiving college debt (two wildly popular policies across partisan lines) would make *who* lose their job?"

Crackersmack, you can't read. You're saying that "donors" are blocking Dems from passing popular policies and winning. I'm saying they don't have that power. You're dumb.

"to summarize, one side is literally Nazis. The other side may have trouble in the midterms"

Yes, exactly. I'm immensely frustrated that a few Dems are blocking popular legislation, not only on the merits of that legislation, but also because it will make it easier for literal Nazis to win back power in 2 years. The stakes are so very high and this fucking party seems determined to make the same mistakes they've been making my entire life.

Gmork - 2021-06-25

Literal nazis. The label is not the indicator, the behavior is.

Lef - 2021-06-25

If you can't see that both parties are acting viciously, violently and dangerously, then you are blind.

OAN is as stupid and inflammatory as CNN.

Hazelnut - 2021-06-25

Ah, thank you Lef, I needed a good belly laugh today.

glasseye - 2021-06-26

Yeah, the mistaken idea that there are two parties IS hilarious.

There's one party, and it's the capitalist-imperialist party (red and blue editions).

Nominal - 2021-06-26

Why would you hang around a nearly dead video aggregation site just to put in zero effort trolling like this?

sad

January von Rodeo - 2021-06-25

So how terrified should I be about this? I'm so fucking tired.

Chicken the Did - 2021-06-26

Not much.

I think there has been a 'Tiny Awakening' to how BAD this is on all levels. The complete bungling of COVID was a death knell. You will not see a republican president for a long, long time...

Unfortunately this may drive the fringe to further extremism so Timothy MacVeigh 2.0 is waiting out there somewhere.

ashtar. - 2021-06-26

"You will not see a republican president for a long, long time..."

Does no one remember Bush?
Iraq? Katrina? 2008? Anyone?
Remember those little January 20, 2009 bumperstickers?

Despite everyone talking about Trump non stop for 6 years, one of the weirdest things about him is how he got elected after Bush did. Like, how did Obama shit the bed so hard that an even worse and more extreme president was able to get in despite the absolute disaster and failure that was the last Republican presidency?

And, why would it be any different this time?

Bush's approval polling bottomed out at 25. Trump's lowest was about 39. Just for comparison.

ashtar. - 2021-06-26

*one of the weirdest things that one one talks about

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2021-06-26

The short answer is "Obama was black". Trump is how crazy a president of color made certain people of no color.

Also, speaking of race, we've now had six presidential elections since the turn of the century, and 100 per cent of Democratic tickets containing a person of color have won (2008, 2012, 2020), and 100 percent of exclusively white Democratic tickets have lost (2000, 2004, 2016). Six is not a big number of elections, but 100 is a big per cent. So maybe Hilary needed a running mate of color.

Bush's highest rating was 86.
Trump's highest approval rating was 49, and that came and went quickly.

The media announced every blip and jitter in Trump's numbers, but the fact is that they never changed very much, and they were never good. Trump's approval rating never got above 50 per cent, and his disapproval rating never got below 50 percent.

"Video has been removed for violating Youtube's community guidelines."

Guarantee it was him or OAN flagging his own words to get it taken down.

What evil fucking cowards.

SolRo - 2021-06-26

Tough call…if it’s inciting violence then maybe it’s best to not have it spread widely? I’d prefer he we’re just arrested for calling for mass murder and all his public statements erased from history, and him permanently banned from any mass media communication.

Hazelnut - 2021-06-27

Certainly I would favour deplatforming bigots

themilkshark - 2021-06-28

I felt that I experienced some situations that indicated to me that the right has turned into the Race War organization. I'm not black, I'm Italian American and even though some would consider that white, I felt "othered" by whites and "white assimilating" minorities.

That's the weirdest thing about this: they don't think their racist. They just want total submission to the White status quo. Ditch your identity or accept your stereotypes and feel shame for how lesser you are. Don't proudly display your heritage unless told to, and expect to be ridiculed for it. If you have cultural pride, you're proud of all the associated negative stereotypes, and should applaud cultural appropriation as validation of the "approved" aspects of your culture... Which is no longer yours, it's everyone's, meaning Whites profit and benefit most from it.

Nominal - 2021-06-29

Actually I'm giving these people too much credit. Even the actual Nazis were more subtle in their broadcast propaganda.

Here's that clip where Nazi television was still talking in code about "a few sour notes" and "people playing out of tune" that must be sent to "concert camps" before they "change their tune and play along".

http://www.poetv.com/video.php?vid=52799

Even actual, literal Nazis weren't upfront calling for mass executions on national broadcasts.
