What's interesting is that most cops are actually pretty down with defund the police if it means funding social services in a serious way. They realize more than most people that arresting a homeless mentally ill heroin addict doesn't really do any good and they'll just see him again next week. They'd rather deal with actual crime, but there just isn't anyone else to deal with societies problems, and we're certainly not going to tackle the underlying problems, so we just end up making cops spend all their time moving homeless people from one spot to another.
