I've deliberately avoided certain events because I hate loud noise, so I kinda appreciate this, but also it's kinda ridiculous.

I mean, it does seem like it would make an event like this run smoother if you're not drowning out all speech with applause every time someone says capitalism is bad.

CLAPS DISTURBINGLY LOUD

It's not a zero or infinity kind of thing. Ambulances being loud has a function. We have (poorly enforced) laws about loud motorcycles, but I still need to get groceries and go to work, etc. Do I *need* to go to some event that I've learned is generally super loud? Probably not. I have this app on my phone called Soundprint where you can record the noise level in restaurants and post them, I use it to find known-not-loud restaurants sometimes, or at least to avoid the really bad ones.
