Where were the funny excerpts?

Crackersmack - 2021-08-21

if you google "please do not use gendered language" there a bunch of greatest hits compilations made from this convention but they are all from rightwing sources

What's the story with the jazz hands thing? I mean, is the anxiety issue that they are catering to actually a real, in any way common, problem? Is there really a good argument for abandoning applause at public events?

ashtar. - 2021-08-21

Had to look it up.

"To help make our convention accessible to all DSAers, we ask everyone to use ASL applause rather than clapping. This helps DSAers who are sensitive to noise. You can find a video of ASL applause here."

I've deliberately avoided certain events because I hate loud noise, so I kinda appreciate this, but also it's kinda ridiculous.

OK. Hmmm. I'm just wondering, like if you live in a city and organize events in a city, the sound of an ambulance going by outside or music from a car or even just a bunch of motorbikes is *way* louder than the applause inside a room. So I'm just curious about the point in removing the affirming sound of applause (I would find it totally weird to perform and be greeted by silence) if people who are stressed out by noise are still going to be extremely stressed out?

I mean, it does seem like it would make an event like this run smoother if you're not drowning out all speech with applause every time someone says capitalism is bad.

CLAPS DISTURBINGLY LOUD

jfcaron_ca - 2021-08-22

It's not a zero or infinity kind of thing. Ambulances being loud has a function. We have (poorly enforced) laws about loud motorcycles, but I still need to get groceries and go to work, etc. Do I *need* to go to some event that I've learned is generally super loud? Probably not. I have this app on my phone called Soundprint where you can record the noise level in restaurants and post them, I use it to find known-not-loud restaurants sometimes, or at least to avoid the really bad ones.

just 30 minutes of cardio per day would make your life immeasurably better Gmork; you'll feel better, you'll sleep better, people will treat you differently

It's a little hard to take these people seriously.
