Still have my laser tag stuff in the attic somewhere.

I couldn't have one of these cause my folks told me that cops shot some kids who had these in public, and got mistaken for real guns. In the 80s. Is that true?

I at least read that story.

Speaking of tragic stories, seeing this commercial reminds me that I recently had at least the second time in my life where I asked some kid younger than myself what they were going to pursue in college, and they said, to wit, marketing, and I wanted to weaponize crying at them.

Yes, unfortunately. A group of teens & young adults were playing Laser Tag in a derelict building and cops showed up after people reported a bunch of people in dark clothes with guns creeping around.

Technically, the guy they shot wasn't a kid. He was 19.

I had an original Laser Tag pistol and the rifle before they started making them look like sci-fi guns after that one guy got shot by the cops.

My sister inherited them after I moved out. She neglected to take the batteries out when she put them away and they got ruined. Also, the rifle, which was white, got really yellowed.

When I came home one time, she asked if I wanted them back and I said she could throw them out.

I too wanted the shit out of these (and Photon) when I was a kid. To the point that when my parents were buying a new car, they mentioned that they were getting one or two thousand dollars for the trade in and my first thought was, "OH MY GOD we can finally buy Laser Tag!!"

I spent agonizing hours fantasizing in the dealership waiting room, having visions like Ralphy and his BB gun. When my parents eventually came out and told me the trade in all goes toward the new car purchase, I threw the most unbelievable tantrum and kept it up for days (god I sucked).

Fast forward a decade. I was the first of my friends to get a driver's license and we took a road trip out of state to some fun park. We were surprised to see a Laser Tag arena there. HOLY SHIT IT'S OUR FANTASY THAT WE NEVER GOT TO EXPERIENCE AS KIDS!

It was the lamest, most cringey shit ever. You were just trading in the old kids game of "No fair! I got you you're dead!" with "No fair! Quit hiding your target sensor, asshole!"

Never meet your heroes.
