What, you never read any jingoistic fanfic about modern military equipment getting time warped back to WW2?

Just The Final Countdown movie.

But, I am embarrassed to admit I read Harry Turtledove as a teenager. Guy wrote almost exclusively historical fiction where future military arms were thrown into past conflicts.

What stuck out more than that though, was that he ALWAYS threw in a self-insert character who was a writer or big sci-fi geek. Said character ALWAYS scored some super hot chick, often being the only character who ever got laid.

At least Stephen King never made his self-inserts chick magnets.
